@j_bertolotti I don't know what some people expect from 'social media'. Maybe some really need 'huge amounts of followers' and that's their goal. What I like about Mastodon is to me it feels like "going into a room of friendly people with interesting things to say / know you can chat with". A bit like going to some retro-computing meeting where you know that everyone there is overall to see something and have a good time meeting people 🙂 My timeline is sufficiently full for me 🙂

@j_bertolotti the lack of discovery at least used to be a problem; when I first joined Mastodon I didn’t know of any accounts to follow, so my feed stayed empty until accounts I followed on Twitter started migrating. Once I was following enough accounts to find more through their boosts and such, curating it was easy. If getting started is still a problem today, well I guess that’s why they’re working on features like “starter packs”

Like, the biggest problem with Big Social is that it shoves an algorithmically generated firehose of crap in your face that you have to sort through and Fedi is a blank canvas ready for you to craft your own newsfeed masterpiece!
