“ But what caught the attention of the Post was that Luoyang Zhonggui High-Technology Co. was a “green energy” company producing polysilicon destined for solar panels sold around the world.” China’s Engine of Environmental Collapse (2020) Green companies dump silicon tetrachloride near farmland poisoning the soil and sickening the surrounding villagers. Just an unavoidable aspect of “green energy”. See in China people don’t have the right to stop this. It’s only slightly worse than the US.

8 min The global economy is killing the planet and China is taking the lead. The eastern half of China is being pillaged so that 10% of the population mostly in the western half of the nation can live a first world level of resource consumption and energy consumption. And once more, China is willing to destroy itself so that the west can pretend it’s green https://youtu.be/I5rxP0dzBx8

@economics_that_works@fedigroups.social @ChrisMayLA6@mastodon.me.uk I don’t understand why the Bank of Japan just doesn’t deploy QE. They can stack up a bunch of Japanese bonds yeah dumb hand the treasury of Japan, a bunch of yen and by the fountain pen right down some big chunk of Japan’s monetary base.

@dlakelan@mastodon.sdf.org Math class except for modeling. I think this guy is pretty good for generating an intuition about math while doing incredibly amazing stuff in blender and talking at 5,000,000 miles an hour. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uBm8UB6oyw

“ The textile industry is one of the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions in the world, and it’s growing exponentially.” China’s engine of environmental collapse (2020) It’s not often remarked on, but an enormous amount of clothing that is manufactured goes straight to the dump without even having been sold. And this, after all the environmental and human destruction to manufacture the stuff.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@FluentInFinance/117026489292928950 @AnarchoNinaWrites@jorts.horse The curious thing about this version of fascism compared to the one a century ago is a century ago they were promising jobs and prosperity.. This round doesn’t do that. They do all their pillaging in the open and they are quite openlythe status quo. pretty trite but useful to point out. The anger is real and out there, but so far they are the only ones capitalizing on it.

RE: https://mas.to/@muskanity/117016909234934696 My clever idea is we come up with some sort of “membership” that calls itself an AI company. So if we rip our DVDs and CDs or anything that might be physical anymore, we’ll just say we’re training “our systems”

RE: https://mastox.eu/@mehdirhasan/117005541882875701 There are two emotions that run through my mind when I see these pictures. 1) The impossible levels of depravity these two women and so many more demonstrate day after day, as an atrocity live streamed 2) that their government and rich insane people made these two women the way they are, possible. These are morally disfigured people. There’s no way to undo this.

The media a long time ago converged on presenting all politics in terms of dichotomies. Those of us old enough to remember point/counterpoint exemplifies this fetish. This kind of dichotomy is meaningful only when you’re talking about passing legislation or not. The great substance of all discussion though can’t be fit into dichotomies, especially when you’re gathering basic information. And that has almost been completely eradicated. #journalism

Conservative anti-science is a witch trial, a red scare this time aimed at a pillar of the modern economy. I think it’s important because everyone in the scientific community should understand what they are facing. RE: https://masto.ai/@GhostOnTheHalfShell/116998218579001574 @dlakelan@mastodon.sdf.org What happens when you take all the hype and hand it off to a chemical engineer to parse? I’ve been having some fun listening to his commentary about AI data center build. The AI sector is living in a fantasy world, but then they already believe that AI will overcome the second law of thermodynamics.
