A five-person startup doesn't need the same architecture as a 500-person enterprise. We size the solution to the actual problem — not the other way around. No template bloat, no padded scopes. You get a direct conversation with an expert who tells you straight what your project needs. That opinion is free. It takes 30 minutes. Bring a rough idea, a roadmap, or a live codebase. Book at codrlabs.com. #SoftwareDevelopment #WebDesign #AppDevelopment #SmallBusiness #UIUX #BrandIdentity #Startups

Share buttons are a design habit, not a strategy. This piece looks at actual data on whether people click them, and the numbers are not kind. If you’ve been adding social sharing widgets without questioning them, stop and read this first. https://ankursethi.com/blog/nobody-clicks-your-share-buttons/ #uxdesign #webdesign #productdesign (https://uxbrad.com/activity/20260701/171500/)

Your custom software shouldn't decay the moment it ships. Most studios disappear after handoff—bugs stack up, dependencies break, competitors iterate past you. Software Care flips the script: ongoing fixes, upgrades, and new features so your product keeps earning its keep. 10+ years, 98% retention. Built in Edmonton. Used everywhere. Okie so revisiting the whole site thing. Need to move away from the super clunky and def designed for techies Mediawiki into something less diff.

Requires:

  • Multi users (I want help lol)
  • Markdown (Non techie writers stuffs)
  • Easy to mod themes w CSS ( I learned!)
  • MFA (pls)
  • I dunno, maybe some other cool stuffs?

I like flat file stuffs BC I can just back it up easy so that is preferred tbh. But I dunno a lot so I might be being stupid?

Looking at:

  • Grav
  • Kirby

(What else?)

Re: flat web design. Buttons that don’t look like buttons. I blew someone’s mind today. She’s about my age, competent at her job, but not much into technology. She complained that she always needs to scroll past the weeks in her web-based calendar. I pressed the current date shown in the top-left corner above her appointments, which pulled up a big date overview by month. She was so excited, asked me how I did that. Mind you, the date was shown as simple black letters on a white background, with only a black, downwards-pointing chevron a bit to the right. It hardly suggested interactivity, especially to those not knowledgeable about web design. I often think that flat design was a mistake, and today’s situation was a good example of bad user experience (UX) stemming from non-intuitive controls. #UX #WebDesign #WebDev #accessibility

RIP Ask Jeeves. The natural-language search engine founded in 1996 was rebranded as Ask in 2006, and officially shut down on May 1. Here are the Wayback Machine’s first and last captures of the site. When websites disappear, the historical record can disappear with them. The #WaybackMachine preserves that history – capturing the web so its past remains accessible. Designers are good people. Some designs exclude people anyway. Alan Dalton explains why—too much to remember—and offers a practical fix: accessibility personas that help you recognize problems while you’re designing, not after. Homework included.
