Today was #TomatoDay at our local #farmersmarket! I picked up a collection of heirloom varieties to do a #tomato tasting board... Clockwise from top: White Queen Early Girl Yellow beefsteak Chinese sugar tomato Black Beauty Red beefsteak Copia (center) It is Too Damn Hot for complicated cooking, so we picked up some sushi-grade tuna at the market fishmonger and just did a quick sesame-seared tuna to go with our tomato bounty. (And some balsamic vinegar & shaved parmigiano to go on the tomatoes, once we'd done our comparison tasting!) The red and orange beefsteak were the most vivid tomato flavor. Copia was milder, white queen also mild and a little sweet. I think the black beauty was my favorite - it was somehow more rich along with the acidity...

Today's gardening job is to make a plant spray out of the leaves I've taken off my tomato plants. I mixed the leaves with water and will let them soak for a day or so. The tea will be full of a-tomatine, which is the alkaloid tomato plants use to keep pests (like caterpillars) at bay. I'll spray it on the brassicas later in the week to stop the dreaded munching beasts. Tip: If you want to make the tea stick to the leaves a bit better, add a bit of soap. #gardening #growyourown #tomato

Today, a "tap tap tap" at our backdoor for several minutes. Suffering from a severe sinus infection, house is a mess, hair in a bun, a sick pup, there was zero chance I was going to open the door. In the mountains, we don't have random people that stop by or people trying to sell you religion or products. So, someone on a Sunday tapping at my back door is not normal. About 30 minutes later, I take the #Yorkies out before the big rain and found this box of #vegetables at the back gate. No note. I started to tear up at the kind gesture because this is who #Appalachians are. And not feeling well enough to cook, someone thought of me enough to supply food on what was a really mean week. #Appalachia is full of #kindness. And for dinner: the best #tomato sandwich I have ever had. #RandomActsOfKindness #Gardening #Garden #Tomatoes #Georgia

Any #tomato experts? These "indigo cherry" were supposed to be all black, but it seems like all I'm going to get is black shoulders. They've had those markings since they first formed. Wondering if they'll color in if I give them more time, or of this is as much black as I'm likely to get.

Can any kind soul advise what's happening to this #tomato plant? It just stopped growing and the leaves lost their deep green colour. The flower buds have not opened. The bottom of the plant is okay. It's one of four plants in my greenhouse. It shares a growbag with one other. The other plants are all healthy. I can see no sign of pests, like whitefly. Location, UK, north. Input appreciated! #gardening #allotments #gardeners #greenhouse
