Mr Ms plot not failed much better. The one crop we can normally count on, potatoes, have a disorder which I think is black heart. Never had this before. Its caused by low oxygen availability to the tubers. Caused by extreme temperatures. Tuber look perfect on the outside but quickly go soft after harvest. When you cut them you see a core area of necrosis. That and bud drop on fruit and beans has really reduced harvests. It's going to be a mean year. Any advice greatly appreciated. #allotments

All the spuds have been lifted, and no sign of the black heart disorder that affected the first row of Charlotte. Those were exposed to the sun and perhaps gave some cooling shelter to the rows behind. The remaining crop is more than enough to keep us in tatties until at least February. And while shop potatoes are relatively cheap, a certain well known organic farm is asking £6.70/3kg for baking spuds and £2.75 for 500g new potatoes. #allotments #GrowYourOwn

Question for Brits, does a hosepipe ban affecting 'millions of households' according to the media also apply to allotments? Asking for a wife. And her husband tasked with carrying watering cans. #UK #water #hosepipe #gardening #allotments

I made a start yesterday (Saturday) on the last "out-of-control" bed at my friend's little allotment. Unfortunately, the raspberries had been almost completely choked out by brambles and bindweed. I fitted the "brush cutter" attachment to my cordless strimmer and made a careful start #allotmentgardening #gardening #allotments | #kent #england

Can any kind soul advise what's happening to this #tomato plant? It just stopped growing and the leaves lost their deep green colour. The flower buds have not opened. The bottom of the plant is okay. It's one of four plants in my greenhouse. It shares a growbag with one other. The other plants are all healthy. I can see no sign of pests, like whitefly. Location, UK, north. Input appreciated! #gardening #allotments #gardeners #greenhouse

@nottoday@aus.social Welcome to the fediverse. It is good. The cat people have hashtags. The gardening people have hashtags. The shouting into the void people have a shared void. Example hashtags are #toebeantuesday, #whiskerswednesday, #gardening, #allotments
