📌George Barnsley & Sons' Cornish Works, Sheffiled. This abandoned toolmakers' factory made tools for shoemakers and the leather industry. Cheaper imports and mass production forced its closure in 2003. I've been to look at the road works on the A57 Manchester Road just west of Sheffield. There is a trench in the road and lots of fencing, but the route is open for pedestrians and cyclists. #Sheffield #Cycling #BikeTooter

The sun is shining, the children have gone back to school, the term time queue has formed, and there is a bus parked in the bike lane. (The bus part can be blamed on Sheffield City Council highways department for provisioning a coach waiting space in a cycle lane without offering an alternative to cyclists other than squeezing past cars.) #Sheffield #Cycling #BikeTooter

Roasting House Coffee

I miss this #bike. It got recalled with the frame issues from babboe which Raleigh rebadged. It was an absolute tank and turned heads. Once or twice we had it full of #coffee for delivery if you include the run to the post office. This is in #Nottingham in front of the Robin Hood statute and we took it to #Sheffield when we moved. The recall was in place by then though but took them over a year to collect it.

🇬🇧 Nine places have been longlisted for #UK #City of #Culture 2029: #Blackpool, Inverness-Highland, Ipswich, #Middlesbrough, Milton Keynes, #Portsmouth, #Sheffield, #Swindon and Wrexham. Each will receive £60,000 to develop their full bids, with the winner set to receive £10 million to deliver a year-long cultural programme. Previous winners have seen increased #tourism, investment and local participation. The announcement coincides with over 230 towns registering interest in the inaugural UK Town of Culture competition, open to applications until 31 March 2026.
