📚 there are docs and guides around (for the HW anything meshtastic-related should do as it's the same boards!)

  • should look deeper in bookmarks/notes, but already:

#Reticulum Community Wiki: https://reticulum.miraheze.org/wiki/Welcome

RNS recipe forum: https://rns.recipes/forum/ (also be accessible via the nomad network, but failed when i tried... ;) )

the full RNS doc for those who need exhaustivity: https://reticulum.network/manual/

  • there is also definitely a need for more doc/guides/etc..

#RTFM💗 (as in "consider reading the friendly manual"...)

A compelling article on the advantages of #Reticulum over #Meshtastic and #MeshCore: https://www.jonaharagon.com/posts/im-getting-into-mesh-networks-meshtastic-meshcore-and-reticulum/ Meshtastic and MeshCore make it relatively easy to set up local LoRa mesh networks, but in practice they remain largely tied to LoRa devices and messaging. Reticulum goes further: it can build a more resilient network by routing across different kinds of connections, including LoRa, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, microwave links and even the internet. Local networks can therefore interconnect while retaining alternative paths if one connection fails. Reticulum’s main disadvantage today is that standalone LoRa nodes generally need an attached computer running Reticulum. If #microReticulum can run directly on devices already used for Meshtastic and MeshCore, it could significantly accelerate Reticulum’s adoption. P.S. I found this article on Hacker News while searching for #MeshCore. The discussion there is also interesting: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48299638 #Mesh #Decentralization

@everton137@social.vivaldi.net As much as I love #reticulum, its packets are a lot bigger than the ones from #meshcore (network transparency comes with a cost ;) ) it's a little sad, but atm you need to use the tool that fits your use-case (and #meshtastic has its use-cases too)

@fdlamotte@mamot.fr @everton137@social.vivaldi.net if you haven’t yet, you have to experience the feeling when you get voice/image over LoRa with #reticulum HAMs are not happy for clogging the air and the duty cycle policy is violated, but, hey… it’s fun 😄

@marsik@witter.cz @circfruit@fosstodon.org @everton137@social.vivaldi.net @fdlamotte@mamot.fr That’s something to think about. I’d like to ask: what about power consumption? Since we #reticulum fans want to minimize our dependence on hardware and third parties as much as possible, does Wi-Fi have terrible power consumption compared to LoRa? Even though Wi-Fi has a much higher data transfer rate than LoRa. I think there are already solar-powered Wi-Fi projects, but how energy-intensive are they compared to LoRa? It’s great that every device has Wi-Fi these days, so we can take advantage of it. How much power does a directional Wi-Fi antenna consume over a range of about 2 km compared to LoRa? Thank you.

Our Scriptkitty badge does a lot, #meshtasic #meshcore and #Reticulum on a touch screen, TempleOS emulator, Bitpirate, Doom, and now I have decided it should play Danza Kuduro. Find us hosting classes at the @IoTVillage@defcon.social, and we are launching pre-orders tonight!

Today I joined the Open Monday at xHain (@xHain_hackspace@chaos.social) Hack+Makespace. It was great to discover the space, and I really appreciate that they set aside a day to welcome everyone. I hope I can join one of their upcoming events about using LoRa radio devices to build mesh networks! I’m particularly curious to learn more about Reticulum. I’m still waiting for my devices to arrive so I can start experimenting with them. Ah, it's awesome that they accept dogs! #LoRa #MeshNetworks #Meshtastic #MeshCore #Reticulum #Berlin

The Reticulum Network Stack and its companion daemon, LXMD, are now available as NixOS services! Setting up your own Reticulum node is now a piece of cake ! https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/blob/master/nixos/doc/manual/release-notes/rl-2611.section.md#new-modules-sec-release-2611-new-modules #nixos #nix #Reticulum

I remember asking people at the last #FOSDEM about ways to communicate by radio in case of an Internet blackout. I explored a few possibilities, but no one mentioned #mesh networks, even though I'd first heard about them more than 10 years ago from an activist friend living in Pará, near the Amazon rainforest. A few weeks ago, I bookmarked a video on the topic. I finally watched it yesterday and discovered #Meshtastic. Since then, I've also come across #MeshCore, #Reticulum, and #atak. When it comes to communication, we seem to enjoy creating many different approaches. I hope these communities will find ways to interoperate and communicate with each other.

What can biology teach us about building better technology? By drawing parallels between microbial networks and the Reticulum protocol, I explore why the future of society looks less like a corporate pyramid and more like a mycelial web. https://sein.com.au/articles/network-as-mycelial-web/ #SystemsThinking #Biomimicry #Decentralisation #Reticulum #Mycelium

I'm on a new instance (thanks @yawnbox@disobey.net ), so I suppose that I should introduce myself (which I never did originally). I'm a #photographer, primarily doing nature stuff (but sometime computer guts). My #photos are online here: @oelnbod@pexels.com I love #FOSS, but would like to think that I am pragmatic in my tolerance for not FOSS. BTW, I do use kubuntu (and also a few others), but please don't fight me. No distro (unless it's run by Nazis) is better than the other, they are all doing good things (even if not perfect), gets praise them not hate them. I program in my spare time, #rust and currently working on a project with #reticulum. I care about privacy and security, and try to live a de-enshittified life, slowly degoogling - but prepared to make compromises. I struggle with social interactions, so sorry if I come across as weird/annoying/stupid/. Thanks, #fedi for giving me somewhere to believe in. :blobcatheart: :BlobhajHeart:

I am spending my time on #Reticulum building content pages, probably as the only person. But I just feel like writing and building stuff again and in a place where it's not just scraped by big tech and presented to people as their own work. Maybe one day there will also be people there 😉 Edit: write me on 6b6e0a9b8d06e2a17ed0d23eab3fb996 and I'll send you a destination to my most recent project 🙂

Do you use the Reticulum network? If so what have you learned you'd like to transmit to newcomers? To me it feels like re-learning networking on completely different bases. It almost feels like the opposite of TCP/IP based networks somehow... To anyone curious i'd strongly recommend reading https://reticulum.network/manual/zen.html #reticulum #mesh #zen #networking #acentral

Took a break from software* to assemble a couple of new Heltec V4.3 Meshtastic nodes. These will replace the V3 nodes I've been as fixed bases in the office and at home. I'll be turning the V3 nodes into Reticulum RNodes and start exploring that space through those. #Meshtastic #Reticulum #Heltec
