There's a whole insane market about this all, nomad project is one. At the end of the day they are all aiming at the same: self-sufficiency in a world that seems to be aiming at shrinkflation and ever growing inequality. There's this other thing, a bit more complex than Meshcore called Reticulum, it goes one step further by pretty much creating your own kind of walled community internet, without internet. I don't want to take it that far. Meshtastic is good, Meshcore is IMHO a lot simpler. Both are unfinished efforts but Meshcore feels more polished. Meshtastic feels like vi, while Meshcore is like NvChad. With Meshcore I get instant messaging, with Meshtastic there's a delay. Online info makes you think you need a third board to work as router with Meshcore but that's not true at all. #meshtastic #meshcore

I'm falling in love with Meshcore. Allow me to explain: I didn't expect it to be any interesting, I was just curious about being able to text my partner without any mobile broadband signal AT ALL, because Galicia has far far too many places, especially here in Sada where this is actually true, starting from nearby Fragas do Eume or the nearby forest. But now, it feels like what I was seeking with XMPP or DeltaChat, total privacy without any third parties involved. It reminds me of BitChat, chat over Bluetooth except it isn't, he can go really really far and the conversation is still instant, over Lora. The app needs some polishing yet it is an open source effort, so contributing is a matter of investing time. And even what it can already do is quite awesome. My biggest curiosity right now is how actually far can we take it and still receive messages instantly with our puny tupperware implementation. #meshcore #meshtastic

A compelling article on the advantages of #Reticulum over #Meshtastic and #MeshCore: https://www.jonaharagon.com/posts/im-getting-into-mesh-networks-meshtastic-meshcore-and-reticulum/ Meshtastic and MeshCore make it relatively easy to set up local LoRa mesh networks, but in practice they remain largely tied to LoRa devices and messaging. Reticulum goes further: it can build a more resilient network by routing across different kinds of connections, including LoRa, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, microwave links and even the internet. Local networks can therefore interconnect while retaining alternative paths if one connection fails. Reticulum’s main disadvantage today is that standalone LoRa nodes generally need an attached computer running Reticulum. If #microReticulum can run directly on devices already used for Meshtastic and MeshCore, it could significantly accelerate Reticulum’s adoption. P.S. I found this article on Hacker News while searching for #MeshCore. The discussion there is also interesting: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48299638 #Mesh #Decentralization

@everton137@social.vivaldi.net As much as I love #reticulum, its packets are a lot bigger than the ones from #meshcore (network transparency comes with a cost ;) ) it's a little sad, but atm you need to use the tool that fits your use-case (and #meshtastic has its use-cases too)

Our Scriptkitty badge does a lot, #meshtasic #meshcore and #Reticulum on a touch screen, TempleOS emulator, Bitpirate, Doom, and now I have decided it should play Danza Kuduro. Find us hosting classes at the @IoTVillage@defcon.social, and we are launching pre-orders tonight!

The #LasVegas #Meshtastic mesh is starting to get its annual influx of users. I’m sure #Meshcore is having the same experience. #DefCon

When I started producing a weekly #anarchist video podcast 20 years ago, I could count in one hand who the other anarcho video podcasters were (at least the ones I knew existed) Today I'm so fuckin happy to find folks producing high quality video podcasts that not only empower peeps but make info accesible to a large audience without feeling preachy and dogmatic!!🙏👏 So while going through a YouTube wormhole of diy #meshcore solar repeater builds, I stumbled upon (well, the algorithm told me about...) @bennjordan@mastodon.social Benn's click bait video "Gadgets For People Who Don't Trust The Government" totally worked (and the thumbnail helped!) This geek porn clip masterfully embedded intro to anarchism bits interspersed the different gadgets Benn talked about. I wish many anarchist propagandists took a cue from Benn and started making media outside the anarchist ghetto. You made it this far down my grumpy old man rant? Then share this clip with your nerdy cousin and save him from becoming just another far right troll. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_F4rEaRduk

I just arrived in Rügen. So far, no repeaters. I'm trying the scope de-mv. #MeshCore #Rügen

Cool! Before leaving Rügen, my LoRa device discovered an observer on the island and, through the mesh, two international repeaters, one in Sweden and another in Denmark, both more than 180 km away!

#meshcore #diy

I think I've got a mostly reliable link into the #meshCore ... mesh ... now Doing some basic tests it doesn't seem that reliable to get a message home from around town, which is kinda annoying. What are people using it for? (other than sending "test" and "hi everyone")

Experiments with #MeshCore = just an excuse to play with #LEGO (and buy little accessories for my minifigs).
