CW: fascism, authoritarianism, xenophobia, sexism, anti-queer violence, climate crisis, AI and labour displacement Hover or focus to reveal Sensitive
I increasingly distrust the language of “multiple crises.” AI-driven labour displacement. Climate catastrophe. Right-wing populism. Fascism. Racism. Sexism. The organised backlash against queer existence. We are encouraged to catalogue these as separate problems, each requiring its own specialist vocabulary, institution, funding stream and respectable panel discussion. But they are not unrelated phenomena. They emerge from overlapping structures of domination. The same political economy that renders a worker disposable can render a forest disposable. The same authoritarian imagination that reduces migrants to a demographic threat reduces queer people to a threat against an imagined social order. The same hierarchical logic that demands obedience from bodies demands obedience from nature, labour and dissent. And when the system produces insecurity, it offers a remarkably convenient explanation: Not the structure. The Other. The migrant. The queer person. The feminist. The unemployed. The dissenter. Someone must be made responsible for conditions they did not create. This is not an accident. It is politically useful. So I am less interested in asking which crisis we should address first than in asking what keeps producing them. Because if we merely treat the symptoms, the machinery remains intact. And machinery does not become humane because we learn to describe its victims more politely. Find the structure. Name the hierarchy. Follow the power. Then start taking the machine apart. #Antifascism #ClimateJustice #QueerLiberation #TransLiberation #Feminism #AntiRacism #WorkersRights #HumanRights #Solidarity

Hello Mastodon! A quick #Introduction post from me. I'm a freshly-graduated Pākehā public historian researching Te Tiriti o Waitangi/the Treaty of Waitangi in #Aotearoa #NewZealand. I'm deeply interested in systemic change based in kindness, community, inclusion, liberation, and solidarity. I'm particularly keen to connect with other folks similarly involved in #RegenerativeFoodSystems #FoodSovereignty #UrbanFarming #OrganicAgriculture #CommunityDisasterPreparedness #QueerLiberation #IntersectionalFeminism and leftist organising. I'm an avid reader and amateur artist who believes deeply in the value of human endeavour, critical thought, creativity, and absurdist humour. As a result, I'm an #AntiAI absolutist. Excited to meet other like-minded folks and learn from your collective wisdom!

CW: transphobia, queer erasure, fascism Hover or focus to reveal Sensitive
Just two examples of what I am dealing with on that other “social” network I sadly need to be a member of. This is gay people trying to eradicate trans people from queer history — while apparently also appointing themselves the Supreme Court of what “normal-looking” gay men and lesbians are. 🙄 And yes, history has an ugly little lesson here. In the Weimar Republic, there were gay men who were deeply attracted to nationalist and later Nazi ideology, including people who were quite happy to distinguish themselves from the “wrong sort” of queer people. Respectability, conformity and throwing other queer people under the bus did not make them safe. It did not save them. So when I see queer people trying to scrub trans people out of Stonewall, Pride and the history of our liberation, I pay attention. Because this isn't merely about the past. They want to erase us from history because they want to erase us from reality. And finally, can we talk about the “kiddo”, “child”, “babe” routine? A grown man disagreeing with a grown person and immediately reaching for infantilising language to establish dominance is not exactly a revolutionary new contribution to human civilisation. Isn't that just typical fucking male behaviour? 🙃 #QueerHistory #TransHistory #Stonewall #TransRights #LGBTQIA #Pride #QueerLiberation #NoErasure #Fascism #NeverAgain

Happy Pride, you magnificent rabble. 🌈💜 Today the parade rolls through both the cities I call home. And of all the enemies I've managed to survive, bigots, bureaucrats, social expectations, and my own parents, the one thing that nearly keeps me away is... my foot. A gym injury. Really? That's the villain we went with? Never mind. If I have to hobble, I'll hobble. If I have to limp, I'll limp. You'd have to do a lot more than annoy one rebellious little foot to keep me away from Pride. After all, society couldn't crush the queer out of me. My parents couldn't crush the queer out of me. And our community did the exact opposite: it gave me the courage to become myself. Queer. Enby. Proud. Still standing. Mostly. So if you see someone in platform Mary Janes, rainbow gear, purple socks and stuff, and an expression that says, "Yes, this hurts. No, I'm not leaving," come and say hello. Because we are still here. And we will not go gentle into that good night they want for us. Happy Pride. Be loud. Be kind. Be gloriously inconvenient. They don't get to write the ending. 🌈✊💜 #Pride #TransJoy #NonBinary #QueerLiberation #NoPasarán #StillHere
