Decided to be wildly optimistic and purchase solar eclipse glasses tonight for whole family online in the hope that: A) they arrive by Wednesday B) the weather is not cloudy on Wednesday evening C) we can find a west facing hill that we can get to by 6pm that won’t also have half of Norfolk there #SolarEclipse #Norfolk

I can well believe that the playing fields of #Norfolk and #Suffolk are too rock hard to play football on right now. They are parched and dusty with many threadbare in terms of grass. Falling on them would be like landing on concrete. Again this is where sport, #ClimateChange and class intersect… Golf courses and private school pitches are still lush green. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/aug/08/scratch-of-the-day-local-football-season-postponed-due-to-rock-hard-pitches

As I’ve been away all week, I hadn’t clocked that #Farage had held a #Reform rally in Wymondham, #Norfolk on Tuesday stirring up anti-Pride sentiment: https://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/news/26401316.farage-warns-norfolk-police-pride-march-uniform-ban/ Glad to say there was still a friendly but not heavy handed police presence.

@smashtie@mas.to One of the joys of #Norfolk, like #Cornwall, is that it always a #destination never a place you pass through.

Don't you just love the #Norfolk sense of #humour? They advise you to seek an #alternative #route to #destination on a #road with no other #access.

#Reform have declared #Norfolk libraries are no longer allowed displays for #Pride: “Public buildings funded by Norfolk taxpayers must not be used to advance any political agenda or promote the interests of any campaign group, however well-intentioned," But being LGBTQ+ is NOT a political choice. Pride ISN’T a campaign, it’s a celebration of identity. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn75n5x6jkro#:~:text=Pride%20displays%20and%20events%20have,%2C%20divisive%20and%20deeply%20damaging%22

Brown Hare. A couple of images from my trip to Norfolk back in April. I really do love being there. Just a shame that Right To Roam isn't a thing... #brownhare #hare #norfolk #wildlifephotography

#Reform offers no policies at all…just a massive hint that it will impose austerity on #Norfolk. And yet according to the polls they are favourites here…rural and coastal poverty is about to get a whole lot worse. ‘David Bick said his party was making no promises on what it would do in power as it needed to review the council's "huge level of debt", which is about £885m. While Reform is not offering a manifesto for Norfolk, he insisted it had good quality candidates.’ https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c0e2n1leep7o

Much is being made of the projected implosion of #Labour at the local elections, but in rural counties such as #Norfolk it’s the complete annihilation of the #Tories to #Reform that is going to happen. Went up to the coast to Wells-Next-the-Sea today and didn’t see a single Tory sign…just #Reform. There will be no one competent left in the room. https://www.pollcheck.co.uk/council-projections/norfolk/#/norfolk

1/5 KIng's Lynn I spent a day in King's Lynn last month, This is the Custom House - built by Henry Bell in 1683 as a merchants' exchange. The building was used as a customs house from the 18th century until 1989. #kingslynn #norfolk #photography #architecture #architecturephotography

So I discovered #BartonBroad in #Norfolk this afternoon. I’d been a few times to the lovely pub, the White Horse Inn, in the nearby village of Neatishead before, but always in the dark. I was blown away by how clear the water was. The reflection of the clouds on the broad was so crisp and clear. I also found walking around the boardwalk on the edge of the broad was very reminiscent of the swamps I saw in Louisiana years ago…but thankfully there wasn’t the frisson of alligators and moonshine.

@gregc@mastodonapp.uk That’s an amazing record you’ve created there! Despite having lived in #Norfolk on and off for coming up to 30 years, my experiences of the Broads have been very limited…mostly because I’ve only been on a boat on them twice and each time just for an afternoon. What are the best ones to walk near if you can can’t get in a boat?
