On a whim, I went to the Royal Festival Hall to see Bruce Liu playing Ravel. Pretty cool. He makes the fiendishly difficult appear entirely effortless.
I think last time I went there, I was a callow youth. It's bigger than I remember!

This is the ultimate in table top bling. When it worked, it would have rolled forward on its wheels, playing music, to which the figures on deck would dance. Then the front cannon would fire, lighting a fuse that caused all the other cannons to go off too. The sailors in the crows nests would ring the quarter and half hours on their upturned bells. And the Holy Roman Emperor watched a procession of guests from his throne on the poop deck. #antiques #history #art
