just throwing my 2 cents into the #vpn choices and based on what i've looked at in the last few days. (yes i'm moving away from #mullvad not in a cutting off my nose to spite my face sort of way) i've looked at the following and i've decided not to go with : #ivpn, #windscribe i also avoided #kagi (incidentally also partnered with ws with discounts) which has AI , based in US and a paid model that I suspect I'll still be the product even though I paid. Either way, i've tested the free search and I don't find it life changing great. the ones that made the 'okay' list was : #njalla, #xeovo, #riseup, #airvpn i wasn't able to find (easily) a list of server locations with #njalla, njalla, riseup and xeovo needed some sort of tech knowledge to get started, and its not ideal as i needed to get this for the household and mobiles. only airvpn was one of the remaining that may had dubious twitter past. but it was the only choice left that had the server location i needed, so this was where i eventually land. mind, airvpn requires you to register with an account, so if you are worried about this, it's not for you. i don't use them for anonymity. tbh, if xeovo had locations and native app setup, i will jump on it. right now it just felt like a compromise. some references: https://www.kuketz-blog.de/empfehlenswerte-vpn-alternativen-zu-mullvad-und-proton/ https://nitter.net/windscribecom/status/1991234536626106606 https://mastodon.social/@xeovo/116852507230389517

@diemkay@hachyderm.io @JulianOliver@mastodon.social @EF@mastodon.bsd.cafe Indeed. People need to care where their money is ultimately going. Personally, I moved to #ivpn. Seamless and I haven’t noticed any degradation in service. I hope enough people do what I did so a strong message is sent to #mullvad.

IVPN Split Tunneling on Linux (Desktop File Method) IVPN's Linux CLI split tunneling works, but their documentation doesn't cover desktop integration well. From what I can tell, you can't just add apps to a persistent list. You launch them through the CLI. The workaround: Custom .desktop files that wrap the ivpn splittun command. Example for Steam: Create ~/.local/share/applications/steam-novpn.desktop [Desktop Entry] Name=Steam (No VPN) Exec=bash -c 'ivpn splittun -appadd /usr/bin/steam &' Icon=steam Type=Application Categories=Game; For any app: Find the binary: which Create desktop file with that path in the Exec lineDrop it in ~/.local/share/applicationsRun: update-desktop-database ~/.local/share/applications Notes: Split tunnel mode (ivpn splittun -on) persists across rebootsApps must be re-added after reboot (your desktop file handles this automatically)Child processes (like Steam games) should inherit the exclusion Verify: ivpn splittun -status This gives you app menu icons. IVPN should document this pattern. It's the cleanest Linux desktop workflow I've found. I have submitted an issue to IVPN's ivpn.net GIthub proposing a guide to be added: https://github.com/ivpn/ivpn.net/issues/1020 #Linux #IVPN #Privacy #FOSS

👇 https://www.kuketz-blog.de/empfehlenswerte-vpn-alternativen-zu-mullvad-und-proton/ #VPN #Datenschutz #Privacy #ITSecurity #Mullvad #Proton #IVPN #Njalla #Riseup #Windscribe #Xeovo

@ivpn@mastodon.social see #IVPN, this wasn't so hard to answer. #Xeovo #VPN say they oppose fascism and hate, support trans people, have never and never will financially support fascism and believe in that privacy and human rights go hand in hand. https://mastodon.social/@xeovo/116852507230389517 This is how you should of been #Mullvad, and how you simply could of straight up replied rather than pull the neutral card IVPN.

#IVPN @ivpn@mastodon.social just say you don't want your nazi userbase to drop you over you stating you have at the very least some morals. Hope you enjoy your nazi bar of a userbase you absolutely attract when you don't make stances clear. It sure would be a shame to be you leaving the door closed for people that are simply wanting to know if you're safe, but leaving the door wide open for those that will do everything to twist you to be unsafe, and you're neutrality won't even see it https://mastodon.social/@ivpn/116834254776187762

Mullvad VPN's CEO has been caught supporting Sweden's far-right political party. In fact, the CEO is the party's largest individual financial donor. I would suggest IVPN ( @ivpn@mastodon.social ) as an alternative. iVPN stays out of politics, except when advocating for privacy and opposing surveillance. That said... When I previously pointed out that Proton VPN's CEO was a strong supporter of Donald Trump, or that Proton falls under U.S. jurisdiction, a group of people tried to perform mental gymnastics to defend Proton. They claimed that any alternative was no better or insisted that alternatives failed to meet whatever qualifying buzzwords they chose. Today, I see those same types of people doing the same thing — defending Mullvad VPN while attempting to dismiss and degrade any suggested alternative. The Fediverse has a group of politically right-leaning individuals who have learned not to express their support for fascism as directly, but instead to do so more passively in the hope of influencing others. Standing up for companies led and owned by fascists while claiming "that's different" when comparing a company with the people leading it (Brave Browser, for example) is one way they encourage others to ignore what happens behind the scenes. Talking down alternatives that are not associated with fascism, or claiming they are no better for vague "reasons" (insert random excuse here), is another way these individuals encourage people to turn a blind eye. No matter what alternative I or anyone else suggests, the important thing is that you choose one that does not support fascism. Don't turn a blind eye, and don't let someone else's mental gymnastics make you question whether you should switch providers. #Mullvad #MullvadVPN #VPN #iVPN #Sweden #Fascism #Proton #ProtonVPN #Fediverse #BraveBrowser #Brave

And #IVPN say they are "politically neutral" when asked about their stance about fascism, being like course we don't support ethical cleansing when pushed on it, as if it's an obvious moral for people to have in today's world with fascists everywhere. https://mastodon.social/@ivpn/116824201197345747 Last year https://mastodon.social/@ivpn/115622073215730221 they gave a non answer that they only wouldn't publicly go on a transphobic rant like #Windscribe, couldn't say yes they support trans people. Neutral doesn't cut it @ivpn@mastodon.social. #VPN #Mullvad

Now that Mullvad is out of the equation, does anyone have any experience with IVPN? Do they have a good reputation? If they are what they claim, then it seems quite good. Post Quantum safe, multi-hop, no-logs, obfuscation, fair price etc. https://www.ivpn.net/en/ #VPN #IVPN #Mullvad #Privacy #Security
