I love it when you can sort of finally congeal scattered projects together into something useful. This is a serverless, single-page x86 disassembler, that runs my marty_dasm disassembly library as wasm in your browser. It may be the only disassembler with specific, CPU-faithful architecture modes. You want to select 8088 and disassemble 0F as POP CS? Go for it. #retrocomputing #assembly #emulation

Floppy drive sounds in MartyPC 0.4.2! Here no disk is actually in the drive - what you're hearing is the stepper motor seeking during POST in GLaBIOS. Why does the BIOS seek the drive on startup? It's trying to determine what types of floppy drive are present. If it can successfully seek past track 40, it knows it is not a standard 360K DD disk drive. #retrocomputing #emulation

here i am labelling floppy drive seek sounds. i used a batch script and the greaseweazle utility to record a TEAC FD-55 seeking back and forth, starting with track 1 and 40, then back to track 2, then back to track 39. In this manner i could capture all seeks from 39 to 1 tracks. unfortunately, seeking backwards sounds different than seeking forwards, but i'm not really going to sweat that right now since i will eventualy need to redo all the sounds with an original Tandon drive, anyway. this is tedious but i spent longer trying to get the label sounds plugin to work #emulation

Perhaps i am being drastic. But, Starshot Space Circus Fever is making me actively dislike 3D Platformers. I can't tell if it is an emulation issue or the game just runs like an absolute dumpster fire. I feel it must be the former, N64 emulation from my understanding is a technical nightmare and most games, even the ones that run well, are secretly screaming about something in the background. #N64 #Emulation #RetroGaming

As I never had any og #GBA console, I don't know if the audio quality roughness comes from #emulation on modern hardware making the sound too clear or if it was already an actual thing.

The M5Stack Tab5 Hot on the heels of my ESP32 display detour–which went from Cydintosh to Flying Toasters on an ESP32-S3 and then, inevitably, R-Type–I ended up with an M5Stack Tab5 on my desk as a(...) #electronics #embedded #emulation #esp32 #hardware #iot #m5stack #reviews #riscv https://taoofmac.com/space/reviews/2026/07/18/1920?utm_content=atom&utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social

So, I was flicking through the games I had on Emulation Station on my Steam Deck. I get to the N64 folder and see a folder I had ominously labelled "2026" I imagine that this was a folder of games I was looking to play in 2026. We are over half way through the year, and I have only knocked one game off that list. Hmmm... I might need to hustle a little bit. I should note that I really dislike playing N64 via emulation. I have probably spoken about this numerous times, at least in my head I have made this comment time and time again. It all boils down to controllers. An N64 controller has 6 face buttons, modern controllers have 4 face buttons. You can easily map an N64 controller to a modern controller. However, mapping the C-Buttons is always the biggest pain. A lot of the time, by default the 2nd analogue stick is mapped to the C-Buttons, and this is awful for accuracy Oh, pushed the stick a little too diagonally? That's a C-Right. Not C-Up! #N64 #RetroGaming #Emulation

technology is amazing! https://ticalc.org is still alive and it's got an archive of software you can run on TI graphing calculators. I was able to do a full system dump of my TI-84+ and import it into TiLem emulator, which runs just fine on Switchroot Ubuntu. I've modified this overlay image to enlarge the screen a bit, too, now it sort of has nDS vibes I think. Actually... I wonder if anyone has made a TI-84 emulator for dual-screen devices. that would be neat. also wow I can't believe that I was into FiM as early as 2010. I can, however, believe that I thought those stripes were the correct colors. #ticalc #videogames #emulation #nintendoswitch #colorblind

I reviewed the TRIMUI Brick Pro, covering its larger display than the predecessors, Hall effect sticks, #Linux and #opensource community software option, and whether the unchanged chipset holds it back from 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 being 'Pro' I also spoke with a NextUI developer and a long-time TRIMUI community member to make my review a little different to others you might see! If you like #retrogaming or #emulation then you might enjoy this one: https://gardinerbryant.com/hands-on-with-the-trimui-brick-pro-a-better-handheld-not-a-faster-one/
