The UK PM has just announced an under-16 social media ban. This is the 'Trojan Horse' in action. You cannot enforce a ban without an Age Verification layer, and you can’t have Age Verification without a National Digital ID or bio-metric database. They are using the 'child safety' card to build a mandatory surveillance gate for the entire internet. Between the new taxes and the constant bans, it’s clear this government has zero respect for personal agency or digital sovereignty. If you aren't already moving your data off the cloud and into your own home lab, start now. The UK social media ban for under-16s does nothing to sort out the harms caused by platforms. Harmful content is a product of a business model that uses data to drive engagement and target users with ads. Digital ID checks feed more data into this system, while leaving the engine for harms unchecked. Image scanning for nudes 🤝 digital ID checks This will affect everyone. All adults will have to hand over their ID to turn off the blocks on their phone. But the scanning software will hang around. Something that could end up being used to censor much more. We can't allow this trojan horse tech. The UK Parliament continues to pursue an approach to online safety that doesn't work. The Australian under-16 social media ban has failed to make any difference and people have sought ways around it.
