FACEBOOK IS TOXIC. META IS AWFUL. WHY CONTINUE FEEDING IT? 💎 Nearly everyone complains about Facebook and Meta. The algorithms are toxic. The advertising is invasive. The outrage is manufactured. CHILDREN ARE BEING HARMED. Privacy is disappearing. And then millions of people open Facebook or Instagram. Again. And again. I genuinely do not understand it. If you believe these companies are damaging children, manipulating attention, and making billions from human vulnerability, why are you still giving them your presence? Especially the parents. If Facebook and Instagram are unhealthy for your children, what exactly are you modeling by remaining there yourself? “We know this place is harmful, darling, but Mummy and Daddy have photographs to look at.” I left Meta years ago. I didn’t die. My friends did not evaporate. Civilization continued. There is email. There are phones. THERE IS THE OPEN WEB. There is even the terrifying possibility of seeing another human being, god forbid, in person. Meta survives because people who complain about it continue supplying exactly what it needs: Their attention. Their relationships. Their outrage. THEIR CHILDREN. You do not have to wait for Zuckerberg to become a better person. You can simply leave today. The door swings both ways. #Facebook #Meta #Instagram #SocialMedia #Algorithms #BigTech #DigitalWellbeing #OnlineSafety #ChildSafety #Privacy #AttentionEconomy #TechEthics #SocialMediaAddiction #Zuckerberg #DeleteFacebook

Your Shared Claude Chats May Be Appearing in Google Search

Public links created through Claude’s sharing feature were indexed by Google, making some conversations discoverable without knowing their URLs. This was not a leak of every private Claude chat, but it shows that a link described as shareable should be treated as a public webpage unless the service clearly prevents search indexing. Indonesia blocked millions of child accounts on social media, but Danica Radovanović, Ph.D. warns: True safety isn’t just a numbers game. Kids just move to other, less regulated spaces. We need cross-platform solutions and transparency! #OnlineSafety #ChildProtection https://t1p.de/scmp_indonesia

VPNs are safe... for now 🛡️ The UK government has backed down on restricting this vital cybersecurity tool. Alongside the announcement of a social media curfew for 16 and 17 year olds comes a win for privacy! Plans to age-gate or restrict VPNs have been dropped, but we're not complacent to future risks. We'll continue fighting to protect VPNs. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/jul/14/uk-16-17-year-olds-midnight-social-media-curfew #vpn #cybersecurity #privacy #onlinesafety #ukpolitics #ukpol

VPNs aren’t just for privacy. They’re essential cybersecurity tools that protect our personal data, help people to work or study remotely, and defend against cyber threats. Restricting them makes everyone less safe – including children. Today we’ve joined over 20 organisations to urge the UK Government to protect children online without making the internet less secure by restricting VPNs. Child safety and security aren’t competing objectives – we need both. The negative backlash over Meta's new feature that allowed anyone to use someone's personal photos and likeness to generate AI content without even notifying them (which had automatically opted in all public Instagram accounts of anyone over 18) was so overwhelming that they are removing it just a few days after it was introduced. Sure, sneaky practices to normalise AI slop and the use of people's data without explicit consent aren't disappearing overnight, but this is a win regardless. It's also a reminder that "it's the future, it's inevitable, we should embrace it" is plain false. Nobody, even those who made AI Ghibli avatars or generate 2 sentence response emails through ChatGPT not knowing (or caring) about all the negatives, wants their images, and the faces of themselves and their family to be fair game and their privacy to be violated. Maliciousness on the internet is not a new thing, but features like that give bad actors new tools to spread false info, create revenge porn, discredit, humiliate and target anyone, especially women and marginalised groups. How we react to them sets a precedent for the future. https://deadline.com/2026/07/meta-removes-muse-image-ai-feature-backlash-1236979605/ #Meta #MetaAI #Instagram #AI #Privacy #OnlineSafety

BREAKING: The EU has passed “Chat Control 1.0” This makes it MANDATORY for companies to scan private messages and submit them to EU authorities. This includes #WhatsApp, Emails, #Instagram DM’s, and other major forms of communication. This is so absurd it is hard to believe it is even happening. And we need more than ever apps that are decentralized without a central point of failure #Europe #ChatControl #privacy #onlineSafety #freedom #security #autonomy #eu #email #decentralization

Saw a video by Wired about the little-known #AssistiveAccess feature on iPhone. Well, it was new to me, for sure. Looks excellent for some of my older customers. But the premise of the video was that Assistive Access can also be used to limit children's access to a set of allowed apps, with the parent or guardian's chosen configuration protected by a PIN. https://support.apple.com/guide/assistive-access-iphone/welcome/ios #iPhone #iOS #accessibility #OnlineSafety #ChildSafety

#BITSzTips As AI makes it easier to create convincing emails, phone calls, texts, and even videos, don’t just trust how real something looks or sounds. Trust what you already know about the person. If a request feels out of character, verify it using a contact method you already have. Don’t use a phone number, email address, or link included in the message itself. A quick phone call or separate message can save you from a costly scam. #Cybersecurity #OnlineSafety #AI #Accessibility

Switching to a password manager? Don't rush to delete the passwords saved in your browser. Move them first. Test that everything works. Only then clean up your browser. A few extra minutes now can save a lot of frustration later. 📖 Lesson 4: https://error-404.cc/en/digital-privacy-security/start-here/lesson-4-moving-passwords-safely/ #DigitalHygiene #Privacy #onlinesafety #mastdon #fedivers #Tech #bigtech #educate

The UK government could announce restrictions on VPNs next month. This would threaten our privacy and security. VPNs keep young people safe from harassment. Businesses secure. Journalists, activists and whistleblowers protected. 🚨 First the social media ban, now the UK government wants to restrict VPNs 🚨 VPNs are a vital cybersecurity tool for businesses, politicians, journalists and families to protect data and communications. Banning or requiring digital ID checks before buying VPNs would increase cybercrime risks and expose IP addresses to predators. https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/2217934/vpn-ban-table-july-labour #vpn #socialmediaban #ageverification #ukpolitics #cybersecurity #onlinesafety #ukpolitics #ukpol

“Soon it will be virtually impossible to be online in the UK without handing over identity documents or biometric data to unregulated companies.” The social media ban means EVERY user has to prove they're over 16. This puts millions at risk of their personal data being hacked. 🗣️ ORG's @JamesBaker@social.openrightsgroup.org. https://www.computerweekly.com/news/366644294/Big-tech-must-introduce-age-checks-to-support-UKs-under-16s-social-media-ban #stopKillingInternet #StopKillingTheInternet #socialmediaban #socialmedia #ageverification #onlinesafety #privacy #censorship #ukpolitics #ukpol

Social media bans don't work. Yet it's happening globally as leaders try to grab headlines with creeping digital ID checks. This doesn't take on how platforms are designed to capture users' attention with harmful content through data-driven algorithms so they can sell ads.
