I bought the book "King, Queen and Knight" from a second hand bookshop today. It is a chess anthology of prose and verse. In the Forward, by C.H.O.D Alexander (chess master and famous cryptanalyst who worked with Turing et al on Enigma), he expresses beautifully an issue for strong chess players, though it could be applied to almost any field.
"When we are soaked in chess, completely involved in its technicalities, we lose something; we forget what it was it was like when we first learnt this mysterious, inexhaustible, implacable art/game/science. Seeing chess - both in itself and in its numerous usages as an analogue of larger things - through the eyes of those who may be inexpert players but are highly articulate and intelligent men and women, we can perhaps regain some of the freshness of feeling that we once had."

The latest Russian attacks on Ukrainian city of Kherson have destroyed the Kherson Chess Club. The only FIDE Presidential candidate to issue a statement so far is German, Jan Heinrich Buettner (the others are Russian toadys).

Hungary's Prime Minister is asking the world's greatest ever female chess player, Judit Polgár, if she is prepared to be Hungary's next President. [The Hungarian Parliament recently voted to effectively remove the current President from office several years before his term was due to expire. ] Polgár is an absolute legend not only in Hungary but throughout the chess world for her ground-breaking play and struggle, as a woman chess player, to be taken seriously. A remarkable person for sure. There is a great documentary on her, The Queen of Chess, - sadly on Netflix - which is well worth watching if you get the chance.
She is an inspired choice for President.

Holy shit, I stopped paying attention several years ago to the Computer Chess Rating List because Stockfish was dominant for too long. Now Stockfish is still in first place, but by a mere 2 elo points, well within the margin of error.
Second place is Pawnocchio, written in Zig by just three people.
