Drinking is bad, mmkay (photo included) Hover or focus to reveal Sensitive
This is what can happen when somebody drinks too much at a nightclub, insults a man's girlfriend with some very colorful words and descriptive phrases, and gets the shit beat out of him when his wingmen disappear. Not pictured: arm cast stabling both forearm bones pre-surgical repair as a result of angry boyfriend putting his pointed cowboy boot through left arm while in a fetal position after initial assault. This was the formative life event for me. It steered me away from #alcohol which was a blessing given the #alcoholism present in both sides of my parental lineage. It cost me some friends, and a year of doctor visits including reasonably complicated arm #surgery. Twice. While viewing this photo certainly evokes memories of the physical pain and sense of abandonment associated with that night and the aftermath, I am also #grateful that I was able to use those memories to change my friendship circle, refocus on finishing college, and avoid the inevitable (for me) pitfalls of alcohol. I now look at this photo now and smile as this straightened me out in a way nothing else could. And no DUI or manslaughter charge (which would have happened had I found the assailant). (and yes, I still regret the mustache and haircut) #photo #fight #barfight #gratitude

Deb Anderson can't remember the last time she bought a product from the United States. Like many Canadians, the 65 year old from Prospect, N.S., said she's been alarmed by U.S. President Donald Trump's repeated threats against Canada — and she's been boycotting American goods in protest. So when she read on Friday that Canada was prepared to lift a ban on American alcohol sales as part of its trade negotiations with the Trump administration, Anderson says she felt disappointed. "But just because it goes back on the shelves doesn't mean that sales are going to go back to where they were. The damage has been done," she told CBC in an interview. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/us-booze-bans-canadians-9.7300293 #Canada #alcohol #usaBully #trump #Boycott

looking for weight loss advice 🔄✅, mention of medical fatphobic gatekeeping of transgender surgery Hover or focus to reveal Sensitive
@LunaDragofelis@void.lgbt Have a think about whether you're an abstainer or a moderator: https://gretchenrubin.com/articles/abstainer-vs-moderator/ When it comes to food, I'm an abstainer. I find it easier to fast sometimes and eat my fill at other times than to live on half-portions of pigeon food all the time. I had good results with the 5:2 #diet — lost a lot of weight and kept it off for about 15 years. (I've now stopped fasting because I've reached an age where muscle-loss is a threat.) #Fasting is not for children, cis women of childbearing age, people who've ever had an eating disorder, or people who've been told not to fast for medical reasons. Fasting is not a substitute for a healthy diet or moderate exercise. You need those too. https://gretchenrubin.com/articles/abstainer-vs-moderator/ The other piece of advice I'd give is to wean yourself off junk food. I did it. It took me years. In an average week, I now consume no crisps, biscuits, cakes, sweets, chocolate, takeaway meals, white bread, pies, fizzy drinks or fruit juice. This stuff is engineered to be addictive and to make you crave more of it. It's a drug. It's adversarial. It manipulates your innate drives to make you keep eating products that don't satisfy you and don't nourish you. Cut out one form of junk food at a time and replace it with something healthy and non-addictive. It will be hard. You'll relapse. But you'll be healthier for doing it, and in all sorts of ways, not just reduced weight. Obviously, the less junk food you eat, the better, but you'll start to benefit as soon as you start cutting it out. You say in your message that you don't like healthier foods. Neither did I. Junk food is engineered to by hyper-palatable. That's part of what makes it addictive. But you won't beat the bulge while eating foods that are designed to make you crave more. And sometimes, as with vegetables, you just need to get it done so that you can move on with something else. I think anyone who claims to enjoy vegetables is lying. Don't tell anyone I said that. I eat vegetables anyway. Realistically, if you don't do so already, you're going to have to learn how to cook. You can't eat healthily from takeaways and restaurants. One easy way to start is to replace white #bread with wholemeal and white #pasta with wholegrain. They have more micronutrients and they cause less inflammation (think: joint pain), but they also keep you full for longer so that you don't go back to the snack cupboard two hours after eating. What else? Oh, yeah, if you drink #alcohol, cut it down as much as possible. It's just empty calories. The less booze you drink, the faster you'll lose weight. And #walk more. Find ways to get more footsteps into your day. Get a cheap smartwatch and gamify the experience if you think it'll help. (Using Gadgetbridge rather than the manufacturer's app will help preserve your privacy.) Finally, try social pressure, because it'll help to keep you on the straight and narrow. One person here documents her weight loss, complete with charts. You could do the same. Ah — I keep thinking of one more thing! Consider a #slimming group. Mrs Wife has had good results with Slimming World. I'm sure there are others that are equally good. All that ra-ra isn't for me, but she's neurotypical and it works well for her. Good luck! Let us know how you get on. #WeightLoss

if you live around Manchester or plan to visit it and never heard about Harcourt pub, this is a must go. founded by Hong Kong refugees, it is genuinely one of the best pubs I've been in over 12 years I've lived in UK. I'm not exaggerating. https://youtu.be/kW2oPcTykzY (English subtitles available) (yes I know it's not *really* in Manchester but in Altrincham - nonetheless, it's 100% worth travelling 30 minutes by tram from city centre) #Manchester #Pub #HongKong #Alcohol #Tourism

#BuzzBallz are unrecyclable, and claims to the contrary are #greenwashing say recycling experts "The company behind the bright, pre-mixed cocktails that have taken Gen Z by storm said they were recyclable on its website, but experts say this is not true. BuzzBallz cannot be recycled as the PET plastic ball cannot be separated from the aluminium lid, global environmental action body WRAP said." I do think the need some sort of legislation to stop people launching consumer products in new types of packaging that can't be recycled by existing infrastructure, and will in fact mess up existing recycling systems with cross contamination. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cr490335z1eo #alcohol #recycling

To fellow Canadians. If your province decides to put US #alcohol back on the shelves, would you buy it? #Canada

Maybe. I might buy 1 or 2 things I miss.

and then there's that tiny point that filtering for tags would be far easier than by CWs not by inherent law, just by how those two things are implemented You can't filter out "CW: Alcohol and non-vegan Food" but for "#alcohol" it works (well kinda… as I saw recently while trying and failing to filter out fifa-shit from my timeline)
