For the millionth time: if you're anti-imperialist, China is not your utopia. It's imperialist as fuck. Tibet. East Turkestan/Xinjiang. Hong Kong. The South China Sea. Constant military threats against Taiwan. You don't defeat one empire by cheering for another. Anti-imperialism means opposing empires. All of them. This is not the utopia we are looking for. #AntiImperialism #China #Taiwan #Tibet #HongKong #Uyghurs

if you live around Manchester or plan to visit it and never heard about Harcourt pub, this is a must go. founded by Hong Kong refugees, it is genuinely one of the best pubs I've been in over 12 years I've lived in UK. I'm not exaggerating. https://youtu.be/kW2oPcTykzY (English subtitles available) (yes I know it's not *really* in Manchester but in Altrincham - nonetheless, it's 100% worth travelling 30 minutes by tram from city centre) #Manchester #Pub #HongKong #Alcohol #Tourism

The United States is not the yardstick by which I measure whether a superpower is acceptable. "Better than the US" is a very low bar. And China doesn't even clear it. An empire is still an empire, even when it wraps itself in different colours. Ask Tibet about "liberation." Ask the Uyghurs about "stability." Ask Hong Kong about "one country, two systems." Ask Taiwan why it has to live under constant military threats for the crime of existing. I refuse this childish game where we are expected to pick our favourite empire. I don't collect great powers like football teams. I reject Empires. Washington can be wrong. Beijing can be wrong. Moscow can be wrong. More than one government can be authoritarian, imperialist, and dangerous at the same time. My loyalty is not to flags. It is to ordinary people who just want to live in peace, speak their own language, love whom they love, and decide their own future without someone else's tanks, missiles, or secret police. No kings. No emperors. No dictators. No exceptions. #China #HumanRights #Taiwan #HongKong #StandWithUyghurs #FreeTibet

A t-shirt with the slogan "I am a bookstore clerk" (我是書店店員) has gone viral in Taiwan. This follows the arrest of a bookseller wearing a t-shirt with the slogan in Hong Kong last week Hong Kong authorities claim that some of the books being sold breached Hong Kong's national security law. One of the books may have been 'Let Only Red Flowers Bloom' by NPR journalist Emily Feng https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/jul/23/taiwan-hong-kong-independent-bookstore-raids-china-censorship #HongKong #Taiwan #bookshop #journalism #PressFreedom #香港 #台灣 #我是書店店員

Day 44. Hong Kong/Istanbul/ Manchester. 19 July 2025. Our trip is coming to an end. We're up at 4.30am, I look out of window for this final view from our 36th floor hotel. It pretty much sums up Hong Kong for me. Surrounded by high rise buildings & feeling enclosed. If I come back I'll stay in a different area. After a 16 hour journey via Istanbul ,we arrive home. Tired, happy & ready to do it all over again.. and we will! #HongKong #travel #architecture #photography #streetphotography #urban

Day 43. Hong Kong. 18 July 2025. Our last full day of our long trip.. and there's a thunderstorm. Typical! A morning venture to the bakery for some pastries results in a soaking. It's a few hours later when the rain turns light, we then make tracks to the market.

Day 40. North Point, Hong Kong. 15 July 2025. It's just under a 4 hours flight from Seoul to Hong Kong and arrive at the hotel around 6pm. A quick shower and then out for a bite and a little wander. High rise buildings dominate the skyline and the smell of anti mosquito repellent fills the air. A long day and early night. #HongKong #travel #travelphoto #photography #urban #streetphotography #architecture
