I am currently testing PhpStorm.
So far I have mixed feelings. But I propably just have to get used to it.,

PhpStorm has a whole set of deployment options. And I really struggle with them. Not because they are complicated but because it constantly forgets or changes the settings without me doing anything (all during one session).

Built-In preview only works when you do net set a web server url under deployment, why? Took me an hour to find that.

The user is the tool! As you said every information, every program every piece of intellectual property is being used. And the user is the tool that hands it to them. Every sent context bringing them closer to being made redundant. What a crazy world...

The goal of the algorithmic corporate feed is to a) make people addicted to the feed and b) continuously lower their attention span so they can show them more ads (I mean influence them) in ever shorter succession. It is a very vicious and purely evil construct. 💯 on Fediverse is social media.

@cmccullough@polymaths.social I would be ok with a simple three column design. Navigation, Content and Ads. Everything staying in its column. But nearly every site is plagued with ads on top, underneath, in between, semi transparent, popping up , animated etc. Some if not most sites are unreadable with ads. You scroll a bit and the page jumps as things are being loaded in between.

I assume there are other automated tools that the vulnerability research community is using Today. How do they compare to the LLM pipeline in terms of outcomes, potential and costs? Disclaimer: I am no fan of LLMs but I am always a fan of understanding what is true and what is fiction/marketing.

I am trying to get this TEA 5767 to work. This ESP32S3 does not have a onboard I2C so I read that I have to use 4.7kOhm resistors to create a pull-up.

The device is connected to 3.3v and the pins SCL,SDA are connected to 3.3V and the pins 4 and 5 on the board.

I use busio.I2C and can get a connection and lock on the I2C.

i2c.scan() does not find the 0x60 address but sometimes I get "'0x8', '0x9', '0xa', '0xb'"

It seems that the answer to survival in #Windrose is to channel your inner Captain Jack Sparrow and instead of traveling by ship you travel in your little starter one man boat.

You will eventually be surrounded by 5-15 Blackbeard ships firing from all cannons. But they do not hit you.

Had a bit more fun with #esp32 and #circuitpython - I really love how quick you can iterate and protoype with circuitpython!

Added a PIR motion sensor and a SR04 sonar sensor to the setup.

The sonar sensor was really easy, the PIR sensor needed a bit of tinkering to understand what dial does what.

Both works well.

Now to set an alarm when either of them goes off to wake the device up from light sleep. Let's see which one works best for that scenario.

But this is so much fun!

@eniko and the extremely sad thing is that all these verification regulations do is provide bad actors with a free tool to identify who is in the protected group. They can do so much harm with a failed verification. Now knowing that the user is probably in the protected group. But I assume that all of this is the plan all along. As most of the lobbying seems to be funded by bigtech anyway.

@Gina the problem with all of this is that there is a 100% chance that age verification will be used to achieve the exact opposite through bad actors. If a bad actor builds a web of valid looking apps/sites and request verification from a user and that verification fails they now can safely assume things about the user: a) cannot verify: Is the protected group! b) does not want to verify or technical problems Bad actors can do a lot of harm with a failed verification! Just one example ..

Got an external USB DVD drive Today and was just testing how easy it is to watch DVDs on Linux.

Was prepared to some researching and installing.

But as it turns out it was just plug the drive in, insert a disc and a popup asks me if I want to start VLC or something else.

Started VLC and it just works. Including the DVD menus.

Best thing: this is ten times faster than TV DVD players as there are no unskippable intros etc.

And this tech is so easy to sell as it fakes being intelligent. It reminds me a lot of the outsourcing bubble 20 years back. In most cases you can replace the word AI with outsourcing and it still works. And all of these waves have one goal: resetting/lowering salary levels

It completely baffles me that anyone can look at the generated output and think "this is how it should be" or look at the anthropic leak and say "this is great engineering" And once someone has emotionally invested in LLMs being the future of their career it is really hard to get a honest conversation going. And when I test it and it doesn't deliver It seems to always boil down to: you are doing it wrong ... you are stuck in your old ways ... pre AI thinking ...

You cannot find any of the content that is hidden in Discord if you are not on Discord.

For example #nigthingale has a lot of great content in Discord and mostly outdated crappy content outside of it.

@corbet this is the core problem with LLM generated anything. There is no personal or emotional bond with the generated output. I love to code and learn from my mistakes. I am highly invested. I cannot imagine anyone using LLMs doing or feeling the same.

If you want to be compliant you need to handle all VAT rules for all member states yourself OR use a merchant of record service. But using a merchant of record service usually means another commission that is cut from your profit 😞 This is one of the big reasons why platforms like steam and itch dominate so much in online sales ...
