There's nothing quite as funny to me as the irony behind the fact that we, as an industry, are now generating more and more bigger and bigger (and horribly unoptimized) software using LLMs, which eat up compute hardware for their ungodly data centers, which, in turn, drives up hardware cost and drives down affordability of reasonably powerful devices for consumers, which, as a consequence, means we're now discussing the need for *SMALLER* and more optimized apps and software 🙃

Who hurt all the web devs so badly that "don't roll your own auth" has almost become a commonly accepted wisdom?
Like... to the point where even the authentication and authorization layers of framework are "too difficult" and they need to use external subscription-services like workos or Clerk to get any app build.
I think I'm going to treat June as my "Month of Kirby" (as in @getkirby@mastodon.social the CMS).
I have a bunch of commercial plugins that I've started work on but never finished. Among them:
- Better contact forms
- Self-hosted analytics
- A genuine & proper newsletter system
So I'm gonna commit to spending 2 - 3hours each day on them and finally finishing them. Might even do a really low effort daily twitch stream of me working on them just to keep me accountable.
Gotta heckin start finishing projects 😅.

Trillions of tokens burned, tens of thousands of people laid of, billions of stock valuations shoveled around and yet software is still in a place where I can't record voice notes on Discord's desktop app.
Getting rid of ~150 loc of JavaScript by using a feature of the web platform that I really should've known existed is already the highlight of my week 😅.
(If anyone cares, the feature in question is FormData (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/FormData/FormData) which replaced a bunch of custom "getting data out of those fields) code with unnecessary special cases for things like radio buttons lol)
Does anyone in the #Apple #macOS crow know of a good way for using an M1 iMac as basically just an external display for a MacBook?
I know I can Airplay mirror to it or like use continuity but like... l just want it to act like a dumb display really. I don't want to have to deal with entering my password on it, connecting a mouse and keyboard, etc.
I'm honestly amazed that more websites aren't compromised on a regular basis. Anytime I do a basic npm and composer audit on any new client's websites it has a gazillion medium to critical vulnerabilities.
I know they're not all going to be exploitable, in fact, most won't be.
But still.. the sheer volume of these + how okay we all seem to be with never addressing them is staggering.
Things I'd pay money for: A better UI for #docker desktop on the Mac.
I know Orbstack exists, but like... they want you on a subscription (because I think they also do a lot more than just be a better GUI).
I'd totally pay like 50 bucks for this as a one time purchase (and maybe again for an upgrade) but subscription pricing kinda does not make sense for this imho.
Now would be a really good time to start a software company that just... sells basic f**king software that isn't bloated with useless AI features and that doesn't depend on subsidized AI usage to write the code in the first place.
