Even though I was on sabbatical this semester, I just found end of year cards left for me in my office from a few of my students from last semester with such kind, appreciative words about my classes, etc.

New paper out! 🦇
We published data from 2015 to serve as a baseline from that time, before white-nose syndrome had spread across the continent. 194 North American bat experts assessed 21 threat categories. Pathogens and microbes ranked as the biggest threat across most regions. Habitat loss related threats also ranked high. Will be interesting to see what may change/stay the same in the future.

Last night we saw:
-1 northern spring salamander
-3 four-toed salamanders
-a couple bull frogs
-a few green frogs
-dozens of spotted salamanders
-lots of wood frogs
-so many spring peepers (one shown in image)
I also didn't realize (or forgot) spring salamanders can stay in a larval stage with external gills for 4 years, so that was a confusing find.

The Southeast Bat Hub (SE in USA) seeks to hire one experienced full-time bat biologist / data scientist to assist a variety of bat ecology research.
An ideal candidate will have experience with acoustic monitoring and one additional bat monitoring method, extensive data management skills, and be familiar with writing code to work with data.
