That is literally the argument people advocating for reducing population growth are making. Reduce the birth rate and there's less pressure on the environment. you'll notice too that the author never attempts to address the underlying point, that larger population means more resource use. Mainstream media just doesn't want to look at it.

Ignoring a problem because we could fix it if only the corporations would do the right thing isn't useful. The extra dietary energy will need to come from somewhere and it comes from environments. Malthus was the first to realise its significance but the evidence came later and is abundantly clear. Populations can only grow as much as resources can support them. Increasing population means more resources are required and that's where land use change comes in.

@gerrymcgovern@mastodon.green Same reason we don't hear about population growth. Capitalists love population growth because it means more consumers. Politicians love it because it means more revenue. But feeding more people from the same resources is impossible. Hard to tackle the problem of consumption while producing increasingly more consumers.

Just had surgery for melanoma. I was intubated and now my mouth is so dry I feel like I've been eating sand. Any suggestions?

PS they put some dye in me and now my wee is blue

@cstross if you read the study they refer to, this will only work in environments where there's a higher atmospheric water content. It'll work around the Persian Gulf but not in Australia, central Africa etc where there's no water source to provide the moisture
