@malinchen@social.cologne Glad I could help! And it means history not through the eyes of those who colonized! So for example, history about the US should be through Indigenous, Black, Asian, etc. stories rather than narratives that paint Natives as savages and slave masters as “good to their slaves”. Make sense?

@chema@social.sanfranciscan.org You’re right. There is a lot of nuance here. My best friend is from Juarez and she informed me how difficult it is for even herself to have this conversation as everyone (within the culture) has a different opinion. I see similarities within North American Indigenous too. My entire tribe uses “Indian” but I’ve had other tribes scold me for uses the term about myself. Like I said, colonization did a terrible number on all of us.

@Infrapink@mastodon.ie @TransitBiker@urbanists.social Muisca hail from Columbia, that’s part of Central America, while Peruvians are are South American. The term#LatinX is a gender neutral form of “Latino/Latina” which refers to people *generally* from Central America. It’s not like the word “Hispanic” which covers more of the Spanish speaking cultures in general. However, I am not from that community so I am not going to say who can and cannot use that phrase.
