@postmarketOS@social.treehouse.systems This is great to hear happening. More mainline phones that work as phones is always great and even better if it can do it without having to do it with downstream patches. Shame it wont work on anything newer than the SM8350 but considering that it will work for everything up to it on qualcomm this is huge for the actual existing community.

@linuxphoneapps@linuxmobile.social Congrats on the upcoming family. With that coming up cutting down on other stuff is definitely the right choice especially if burnout was on its way. Thank you for what you have done and for pushing mobile linux apps forward. I do agree that something like this does still need to exist so hopefully someone spins up something similar.

@dos This is amazing to hear, looking at the repo it also looks like you added gl processing so it sounds like it should be pretty fast too! Cant wait to give it a try soon.

@dos@social.librem.one based on the drain numbers i was seeing, it looks like it matches up with what i had when i did my test with the screen on + stress running and pegging the CPUs. That comes out to just shy of 5 hours. No idea on what kind of time that would transfer over to the L5, especially since the CPU/GPU on the FLX1 are way faster on the L5 so wouldnt be exactly apples to apples. I should give it a test on my L5 and see how it handles atleast audio + logging the workout.

Thank you @furilabs@fosstodon.org team for making a phone with good battery life. Just did a 75 minute workout on my indoor bike and logged it all with the #FLX1 Only lost just shy of 20% while connected via bluetooth to my earbuds, heart rate strap, indoor bike. Playing music in gapless, browsing the web in firefox and jotting down notes, processing the hr/bike ble packets and displaying them in my workout app. Great not having "range anxiety" on #mobilelinux hope more devices follow

@dubstar_04@fosstodon.org "self" developed, i've mostly been using chatgpt/claude to help me get it all in one piece working and then separating to libraries so i can then clean it up. I just added incline treadmill support was important since the stryd footpod cant detect the threadmill incline so it doesnt adjust the power formula itself which throws off workouts. Also just added bike trainer support since i cant use zwift on a mobile linux device. Both those are in main only. https://github.com/luigi311/fitness-tracker

looks like this might be the solution to my problems https://github.com/stalwartlabs/stalwart Looks like i can spin it up and use the collaboration side of it for contacts and calendaring and ignore the email side of it.

Was going through some of the #fosdem talks and noticed one on something called #JMAP maintained by #fastmail mainly for managing/syncing contacts and calendars. Is there anything in terms of self hosting a server yet that i can then develop something that will connect to it? I see someone made a nextcloud proxy but i dont really want to spin up a massive nextcloud server just for contacts/calendar. Id like to use it for #mobilelinux so hopefully gnome/kde support it upstream at some point.

@angelthorns@social.treehouse.systems that’s too bad. Glad to hear you are still working on it, do you love it as much as people love it on the android side of things?

It looks like it’s almost the perfect device to carry around. I do wish it had used the 8 gen 3 though as that’s what will be on the valve steam frame so it would have had the kernel backing of valve indirectly.

@shom@gts.shom.dev a while back you were posting about your #PineNote E-Ink tablet, now that you've had it for a while, assuming you still have it, how has it been holding up for you? Do you still use it and enjoy it?

The Mecha Comet #mobilelinux kickstarter has gone live. Comes with either an IMX8M Plus up to 4GB Ram or a IMX95 up to 8GB Ram. Looks like a really nice linux first device running a downstream 6.12 kernel. It has a m.2 slot which can accept a modem for cell service but no ear piece so calls will be speaker mode only. Cameras are already working using the ISP. Hope they meet their timeline of this year as I can’t wait to get mine.

@austriancoder@fosstodon.org is the latest mesa already defaulting to gles 3 for etnaviv? I thought it was still defaulting to the gles 1 or whatever it was before and the only way to get to 3 was to do the override for now. Or are you talking in relation to the freeze for a bit?

Just tested on my #librem5 and it works when setting the gles override as its needed MESA_GLES_VERSION_OVERRIDE=3.1 luckily it does seem to mostly work ok. It has a long delay when exiting the now playing to view the library but audio continues working perfectly. Submitted a PR to the flatpak to add in the needed changes for arm64 in flathub but its waiting for a new release to be tagged on the finamp repo. Considering this does seem to need GLES3 i guess no #pinephone :/ #mobilelinux

Looks like a really good #jellyfin music player is coming to #mobilelinux hopefully soon. Finamp is flutter based and looks like someone added in a CI for building an arm build recently and it looks great. Seems to require EGL > 1.5 and GLES > 3.0 though for hardware acceleration. This is a nice looking app and hopefully at some point i can run it accelerated on one of my devices i actually carry.

Theres nothing from the original used here. For other cases where i do do a smaller update ill take a look at adding that in.

@DefectiveWings@infosec.exchange @furilabs@fosstodon.org halium device means it is built on top of the android kernel that the device is originally developed with and utilizes it to some extent to handle drivers. It has its pros and cons. The plus is it lets you get a lot of the hardware working quickly and get a usable device. The downside is kernel updates are very hard which is why this device is still on a 4.19 kernel and this might cause issues in multiple years when its EOL so some prefer a more mainline kernel.

Updated @furilabs@fosstodon.org #FLX1 review is now up! https://blog.luigi311.com/furilabs-flx1 Let me know what you guys think and if it covered everything you guys would be interested in. Added in some more battery numbers and simplified some charts. Looking forward to the future progress on the FLX1 and its sister device!

Working through updating the #FLX1 review i wrote up a while ago and my god hopefully future phones I test both do and dont have similar battery life. I want to have full battery life numbers instead of just estimations so from 100% to the phone is off. Standby test without a sim and wifi on the entire time has been going 164 hours and still has another 16% to go. No deep sleep. Luckily the last battery test i need. Im also updating the review structure a bit to show more info.

@rmader@floss.social Looks like that release also brings in a video only profile which is super useful for all #linuxmobile devices since i dont think anything right now is able to use pipewire for audio and will stop the issues where installing pipewire breaks all audio but still allow us to use it for cameras and screensharing.
