  After running my car down from 100% charged to (iirc) 16%, the regen percentage is In, and it’s more than I would have thought. My car’s battery is 84kWh (unsure if net or gross). 26.4/84 equals about 31%. So regen contributed about a third, almost, to my car’s useful range. Wow.

  Most people are aware of the shortages in components; particularly high speed RAM; caused by the demands of AI companies. I think a smaller number of people are aware of basic raw material supply issues also being caused by the same. FR4 - the material PCBs are made from is reportedly in shortened supply, leading to less CCL (copper clad laminate). This hits EVERYONE who makes electronics. Some reports show a monthly supply gap of 8 million square metres of this stuff.

  We have recently started using a small green "food waste only" bin. The nifty bit about this thing is it is collected weekly; both with recycling and with general waste. It really does increase "rubbish capacity". If you have one, and you've not used it, or if your council will give you one, and it works the same way (food waste every week, recycling and general every other) give it a try.

  I think one of the most awesome and "new" things most people overlook about EVs is regenerative braking; in particular JUST how much energy gets recovered. I am mid way through a fully charged battery (100%, rare; I had one longish journey to do). I have 56% left (est. 137 miles) and the car's monitor shows I have already regenerated over 10kWh. Given the battery is 84kWh (unsure if that's net or gross) that means that we may be on course for something like +25% extra range...

So it had moved to Network Solutions without him knowing it. He last renewed it for ten years... ten years ago. Could I help? Well I made some enquiries.   I did a thing over the weekend. Quite a faff to set it all up BUT speaking from personal experience, flying a C152 in MSFS24 with VR and yoke/pedals is almost ridiculously similar to the real thing in a real aircraft. I am really fairly impressed with Meta Quest 3 VR. And the best bit is, I traded an old point-and-shoot camera I’d not used in 5 years so only had to pay £47 to CEX in money for the headset. Win.

  Apparently this can act as a UPS, which is good because every recollection I have of old lead acid UPSs revolve around the replacement of ruinously expensive batteries (what felt like) prematurely. Ultimately this will UPS my network rack which includes firebrick, switch, ONT, CCTV DVR, etc. But before it goes out to that pasture, it will UPS my 3d printer whilst it has another stab at the huge 40 hour dust separator job.

  Anyone able to definitively speculate on what this thing is? It is 8mm diameter. ChatGPT was reasonably sensible and probably accurate, but I’m still mystified that it should just materialise in my kitchen. I thought it did fairly well, and confirmed some of my own thoughts, or at least confirmed they were vaguely sensible.
