I think one of the most awesome and "new" things most people overlook about EVs is regenerative braking; in particular JUST how much energy gets recovered. I am mid way through a fully charged battery (100%, rare; I had one longish journey to do). I have 56% left (est. 137 miles) and the car's monitor shows I have already regenerated over 10kWh. Given the battery is 84kWh (unsure if that's net or gross) that means that we may be on course for something like +25% extra range due to regen. Mad.

    @bloor@bloor.tw Presumably the amount you get from braking depends to some extent on your driving style.

    @bloor@bloor.tw looking at my stats over the last 90 days, 1066 kWh consumed and 199 kWh regen. I do quite a lot of motorway driving too where there’s relatively little regen. I have flappy paddles to adjust regen level which is brilliant and also feels like the future.

  • @bloor@bloor.tw I have been enjoying regen braking with my 2022 MG5. It isn't one pedal driving, and will only slow to 3 or 4 mph and then carry on driving unless I use the foot brake. I had to drive my 2016 diesel Skoda Octavia Scout for 233 miles of trailer towing, yesterday. I found I really missed that regen when I let off the accelerator. Even after only three months of EV driving it was very noticeable how much I needed to use the foot brake, and how much I needed to think about selecting the correct gear, how much I needed the clutch to get the heavy load moving. I really wish I could afford to convert Scout to electric.
