@Njord@zeroes.ca having socialized, worked, studied, and learned the culture of the early internet, I feel more like that's where I live and act? It's like a non-spatial country without strict borders, apart from those created by language barriers. I essentially live there. It's occupied by the US, and other geospatial countries, that have colonized it to varying degrees. Those also claim my neighbors on the Internet as citizens. So it's a sort of dual citizenship. Two places overlapped. I frequently cross into the country that's colonized my area, geospatially. I get groceries there, work there, study and socialize there, etc. I participate in political action there to preserve the liberty and health of it, of the Internet, and of other countries I feel connected to/spend time in through the Internet.

@Njord@zeroes.ca As a Christian, I think my answer should be "Heaven". Otherwise I think Brazil should be broken up into a hundred countries and I to be a citizen of the region I was born in.

@Njord@zeroes.ca I identify as a person from the country I was born in. But I have very little to no patriotism/nationalism (it’s the same thing!) in practice. Flags and hymns and creepy pledges aren’t for me. I think I identify more with how people generally act. Like I feel more Germanic than Anglo, but it’s more akin to how I prefer JRPGs to FPS games.

@Njord@zeroes.ca I don't understand the "legal status notwithstanding" part. citizenship is a legal status. I live in Sweden but I'm not a citizen. I would not say I'm a citizen of Sweden, but I wouldn't hesitate to call myself swedish. even though I just admitted to not understanding what's being asked, I interpret this question as "which national identify do you connect to the strongest, regardless of your physical circumstances". in which case, I choose a multinational federation: the Nordic Council. because I've lived in the Nordics my entire life and my native languages are Swedish and Norwegian. and I've voted as such, I guess. however, this question needs to be multiple choice. I was born in Norway. that's a Nordic country. like, literally, legally, I've had a Nordic citizenship my whole life. this multinational federation is the one I was born in.

@Njord@zeroes.ca Something like "a citizen of the world" would be most appropriate for me, I guess. I don't feel like (even if I am) a citizen in a country I was born in, most of my friends are spread around the world, most of my internet friends are foreigners, most of my news (that I care about) are an equal mix of local and global, most of my social media is international, etc etc etc

@Njord@zeroes.ca I'm a human citizen. In such an interconnected planet a lot of the politics, power structures, economics, bleed across borders even if it takes longer to cross those borders sometimes. So I'm a citizen of humanity.

@Njord@zeroes.ca I'd say I'm Person of Scotland: born in England, but have lived here most of my life. Yet Scottish citizenship isn't a thing yet. When it is, I'll probably apply for it. But to my mind, residency is the main thing. Participation. Where your home is, where you work or study, where you pay taxes, where you vote. All citizenship is is paperwork recording a *right* to residency that can't be easily removed. Some backward countries use it for voting rights too I suppose.

@Njord@zeroes.ca something else : My town, and local sub-divisions (in France they're – from widest to smallest – Regions, Departements, town communitied, towns) The smaller the subdivision, the more I feel a citizen of it.

Jokes aside though I will call myself a Canadian but only as a matter of convenience since that's what people call the land in which I was born and continue to live on. I have no actual loyalty to this place beyond fighting against any despot that would want to take over it (Canada is always a colonial shithole it doesn't need the US "freeing" it or some BS like that).
