Nel pomeriggio in cui tutti gli occhi erano sul derby italiano agli Internazionali di Roma tra Sinner e Pellegrino, Luciano Darderi decide di prendersi inaspettatamente la scena. Il numero 20 al mondo italiano infatti ha prima salvato 4 match-point nel secondo set e ha poi rimontato e battuto il tedesco Alexander Zverev, numero 3 del ranking Atp e seconda testa di serie, con il punteggio di 1-6, 7-6 (12-10), 6-0 dopo due ore e 25 minuti. L’azzurro ha infuocato la Bnp Paribas Arena (il secondo campo più importante di Roma), che l’ha spinto poi verso un’epica rimonta. Ora la sfida al giovane talento spagnolo Rafael Jodar, che ha battuto Learner Tien senza problemi.
“Non so come ho fatto. All’inizio non mi sentivo bene. Ho cercato di mettergli pressione nella parte finale del secondo set, ho visto che era molto nervoso. Ho dimostrato di avere una grande mentalità”, ha dichiarato Darderi a fine partita. E sulla spinta del pubblico: “In un altro torneo probabilmente avrei mollato, ma con questa gente che mi spingeva è tutto diverso.
