Vienna, 14 set. (Adnkronos) - Il numero uno del mondo Jannik Sinner è iscritto al torneo Atp 500 di Vienna, in programma dal 24 ottobre al 1° di novembre. Lo hanno annunciato gli organizzatori dell'Erste Bank Open, di cui il numero 1 del mondo è campione in carica. "Il campione in carica Jannik Sinner torna agli Erste Bank Open. Jannik Sinner scenderà in campo agli Erste Bank Open 2026! Dal 24 ottobre al 1° novembre, il numero uno del mondo cercherà di bissare alla Wiener Stadthalle il trionfo dell'anno precedente. Sarebbe il suo terzo titolo nelle ultime tre partecipazioni al torneo di Vienna", scrive il torneo di Vienna.
Il numero 1 del mondo guida l'entry-list insieme a campioni del calibro di Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, e gli altri italiani Flavio Cobolli e Lorenzo Musetti. Anche nel 2026 potrebbe quindi ripetersi la sfida con Zverev, che dopo il successo al Roland Garros di giugno ha conquistato anche gli Us Open. Presenti anche il beniamino del pubblico Frances Tiafoe a cui si aggiungono, tra gli altri, Learner Tien, Jakub Mensík, Brandon Nakashima e Tommy Paul . Già prima della chiusura ufficiale delle iscrizioni, fissata per il 30 settembre, si delinea dunque un parterre di altissimo livello. Ma innanzitutto l'attenzione si rivolge al detentore del titolo: riuscirà Sinner, dopo il 2023 e il 2025, a conquistare il trofeo anche alla sua terza partecipazione consecutiva a Vienna?
L'ingresso in entry-list ovviamente non significa automaticamente la partecipazione ma il "legame tra Sinner e gli Erste Bank Open è di lunga data. Nel 2019, l'italiano arrivò a Vienna da numero 119 del mondo grazie a una wild card; nel 2020 ricevette un nuovo invito dal direttore del torneo, Herwig Straka. Nel frattempo, è diventato una delle più grandi stelle del tennis mondiale, vincendo il torneo nel 2023 e nel 2025", si legge ancora sul sito del torneo. "Il suo trionfo più recente è ancora ben impresso nella memoria dei tifosi: nella finale dell'anno scorso, Sinner ha avuto la meglio su Alexander Zverev al termine di tre set di altissimo livello. In quell'occasione, ha espresso parole di grande affetto per il torneo: "Vienna è un torneo molto speciale per me e amo anche la città. Qui mi hanno sempre trattato benissimo. Se devo giocare un torneo in questa settimana, scelgo Vienna".
