How do you vet executables? I have found some software on 1337 that a friend was asking for. It’s for Windows and I’m on Linux. Is test running the software inside a VM the only way to securely vet it (to see what connections it tries to make and what processes it starts)? On VirusTotal, I get one positive and 66 negatives. Preferably, I’d like to hand over the software without worrying about giving them malicious code…

If you can afford it, after the untimely demise of the World of Spectrum database, it would be a good time to help leeching and seeding zxart as a preservation safe. Spectrum Computing and the Internet Archive are amazing resources, but it's public knowledge how archives are enduring persistent attacks. Nothing can beat redundancy of a full organised archive distributed globally. https://zxart.ee/userfiles/file/zxart_offline.torrent #zxspectrum #spectrum #speccy #torrent #retrocomputing #retrogaming #bittorrent

Huge hammer blow for the French torrent tracker scene. Waves of arrests have taken place, and historic sites/teams are shutting down quickly. This situation affects both the brains behind the platforms as well as some moderation actors. FW, UNFR, Predb, Nexum, Xander, QTZ, Tenmaland, Supply, and Slay3r have either closed or announced imminent closure. Behind every username are real people whose dedication built communities over years, our thoughts go to administrators as well as affected users, particularly those without means to access culture legally, the most precarious, and everyone fighting against digital locks that deny access to knowledge and works. #torrent #tracker #p2p #piracy #drm #law #justice #arrest #security #french #france #it
