I found the original ROM files for the DaynaPort SCSI/Link and got some more insights on how the device actually behaves. Here's updated version of the BlueSCSI v2 Pico 2 firmware. Fellow retro fedi folk, I need your advice/recommendation; I'm selling off a bunch of things, including all-but-one of my 68k Macs. I'm keeping my LC, but will be selling off the Color Classic I have restored over the past two years. With it I'll be selling a keyboard and mouse (of course), but I'm torn between which one I should sell along with the CC, and which one I should keep for myself. On the one hand I have an "Apple Keyboard" that originally came from the US. It's working nicely, cleaned inside and out, and is not yellowed all that much. Actual mechanical keyboard, although it does have some odd decisions like a guiding poke thingy on the enter key that basically makes it harder to hit the key depending on where you mash, but whatever. On the other hand I have an "Apple Keyboard II" (gotta love these names, thx Apple). Also working nicely, cleaned inside and out, has Korean keys, and is the less nice or premium feeling membrane style keyboard (kind of mushy). Slightly more yellowed, but not really all that bad I think (plus, I don't really mind the yellowing). I'm torn because I think in basically all ways the "Apple Keyboard" is the better keyboard, but I like that the II is Korean, and is technically the correct matching keyboard with the LC, at least based on what I have been able to find through photos and whatnot. If I ever leave Korea and am able to bring my old Mac stuff with me, I suppose it'll also be nice to have that be this matching Korean keyboard? So, my question to you is; Which one would you keep for yourself, and which one would you keep? Bonus points if you can share the why's. Thanks so very much! Worked on NetHack 5.0 for m68k some more over the weekend.

It now supports all major Nethack 5 UI features:

  • status hilights
  • HP bar
  • 2 and 3 line status bars
  • sound
  • window positions and fonts customizable
  • optional permanent inventory
  • tiles in menus / inventory
  • overview window
  • fat binary (m68k+PPC)

Still needs some testing + polish, so it's not yet publicly available.

Some enhancements coming to Amiga and Atari too.

found this hidden gem on the garden. it's a japanese hypercard game called Summer Vacation - Search for the Golden Beetle (夏休み・黄金のかぶと虫を探して, Natsuyasumi - kogane no kabutomushi o sagashite) the pixel art is just insane - such a careful balance of positive and negative space in each rendering. it plays very much like early Cyan games like The Manhole - pure exploration. thank you macgarden archivist baku for finding, buying, and preserving this incredible gem. https://macintoshgarden.org/games/natsuyasumi #1bit #hypercard #macintosh #vintageApple #art #japan

Who remembers the old #Macintosh scripting language, AppleScript? The Hypercard language HyperTalk had a similar character of being verbose but in a way that made the scripting code look a bit more like natural English. I was rather fond of it even if it was a bit belabored. So uh... what would #regex look like if it were AppleScript style?

My NetHack 5.0.0 Classic Macintosh port is almost ready. It can now also use tile mode and the optimized tile renderer from the Amiga version runs nicely even on lower end Macs (you still need a Mac with at least 8 MB of memory). #NetHack #Macintosh #RetroComputing #Roguelike

i just fell in love with an extremely obscure piece of macintosh software that has a 10/10 ui: Calculator Construction Set by dubl-click software you drag and drop pieces of a calculator: pushbuttons, lcd screens, paper tape printers, and then wire them together using a wiring tool. then you can script in behaviours for every component. https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/calculator-construction-set #macintosh #vintageApple

i realize that this only speaks to 0.1% of you, but some useful info for NeXTStation owners: the battery backup that shipped with the nextstation is a BR 2/3A type battery - a chub gherkin that costs about $7-12 USD and are not easy to find these days. thankfully i've discovered a modern direct swap equivalent: the CR123A. it is used in various types of LED flashlights. it outputs the same voltage. the only difference i noticed is that the CR123A is about 0.5mm longer due to slightly more protruding positive terminal. thankfully, the battery holder accepts it (it just puts more pressure on the holder's metal flexi-tab). the CR123A can be found for $1 each. #vintageApple #macintosh #next #retroComputing #vintageComputing
