I hope that when John Roberts wakes up this morning in his small bed in his small locked room in the psychiatric facility where he's been referred for a mental health evaluation (see above), he remembers it's July 4th and really hopes he can get out today so he can celebrate with friends like usual, but then he remembers that actually these days he has few or no friends, especially since Clarence Thomas and Sam Alito went feral on him (also see above), and then when the orderly comes to let him out he asks whether the facility has managed to reach anyone to arrange his release to a private provider, and the orderly checks the chart and says that they've called Roberts' emergency contact, his wife, but that she hasn't answered the calls, which John knows probably is because she's still overseas with her pelvic health physiotherapist (id.), which means actually no one knows he's been locked up and no one is arranging for his release on this holiday weekend and he's going to spend America's 250th anniversary in a psychiatric facility, but on the bright side the orderly has gaily decorated his porridge this morning with some fun stripes of red and blue icing and a tiny paper flag (with only 25 stars and 11 stripes because it's small). #IHopeJohnRoberts #July4 #July4th #250th

Nothing says #July4 like a big juicy slice of watermelon. An average watermelon weighs 15 - 20 pounds. Can you imagine harvesting them in a 100°+ Riverside County field like these workers who formed a human chain of picking and passing the watermelons to the trailer? #WeFeedYou

Grilled portobello mushrooms are a fantastic meatless burger alternative to toss on your #July4 grill. Make them union mushrooms by looking for Monterey Mushrooms. Thank you "Elia" for this photo. #WeFeedYou

Trump’s ability🚨to destroy everything he touches has come for what should've been the easiest of tasks: making the 250th anniversary of the DOI✍️: fun. If there's one thing the world’s oldest democracy is good at, it’s throwing Indep Day parties, hosting outdoor concerts, & filling out state fairs. This was a mistake. 💙cities are hosting alt🎇🎉🧨#July4 concerts:⚡big stars are scheduled to perform. Better yet, much of it is being organized by⚡#America250...‼️ #ETTD #USPol https://www.salon.com/2026/07/03/trump-wrecked-americas-250th-in-dc-but-other-blue-cities-will-save-it/

"Fellow-citizens; above your national, tumultuous joy, I hear the mournful wail of millions! whose chains, heavy and grievous yesterday, are, to-day, rendered more intolerable by the jubilee shouts that reach them. If I do forget, if I do not faithfully remember those bleeding children of sorrow this day, “may my right hand forget her cunning, and may my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth!” Frederick Douglass, 1852 #4July #July4

In honor of U.S. Independence Day, I decided to re-read the Declaration of Independence. This is well worth a read - these are powerful words that are as important and relevant now as when they were written 250 years ago. Here’s just a section of it; you can read the entire text at https://www.archives.gov/founding-docs/declaration-transcript (and be sure to vote this Fall!). #IndependenceDay #4thofJuly #July4 #July4th #USElections #vote #VoteBlue #GetOutTheVote #GOTV
