From #LouisRossmann, for anyone concerned with #surveillance and #faceRecognition: The image recognition component of #Google #Gemini insists that multiple contemporary photos of American repair technician and #rightToRepair advocate Steven Rhine are definitely photos of an (obviously long-dead) #Sep11 hijacker. As is said in the video, “what the #flock!” (Yes, it’s a different image matching program returning a false positive, but Flock warrants becoming a curse.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JbQhcTF7Uk #ai #deflock #privacy #uspol #cdnpoli

Some #GoodNews: LAPD is ending its “agreement” with #Flock. “LAPD announced that it will allow its agreement with the company to expire Saturday, ending the department's three-year relationship with the security firm - at least for now.” “"This contract is not being renewed because of serious concerns around civil liberties and civil rights issues, particularly around privacy and the data that is being collected from these cameras," said Dean Gialamas, LAPD's chief information officer. "The LAPD had to make a difficult decision, in this case discontinuing using Flock services until we can get those data, privacy, security and sharing concerns ironed out through a contractual relationship."” The fight isn’t over, but the pressure is working. #deFlock #fuckFlock https://abc7.com/post/lapd-ending-agreement-surveillance-company-flock-safety/19483200/

From the ACLU: #Flock lies to city managers about what they do. “Flock’s chief information security officer, who was in attendance, told the council that Flock’s system did not “create a pattern or heat map of an individual’s movement” through the tracking of their vehicles. At the end of that meeting, the Oshkosh City Council approved a contract with Flock. The very next morning, the city learned that Flock had lied.” #deFlock #fuckFlock https://www.aclu.org/news/privacy-technology/tracking-alpr-cameras/flock-safety-credibility-lost-as-it-repeatedly-lies-to-city-councils-police-departments-and-public-across-the-country

Video from Reddit: Flock cameras cut down, smashed, maybe blown up? Video posted to reddit a night ago appears to be an official release by the strike team. https://www.reddit.com/r/FlockSurveillance/comments/1ulcdcj/_/ Footage shows flock cameras being cut down, smashed up, and two fireworks blasts unknown if those were Flock cameras being blown up with firecrackers. I guess Flock never expected to have to worry about having their shit blown up over the July 4 week! #Flock #DeFlock #fireworks

This week @404mediaco@mastodon.social revealed that Florida's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is providing ICE with access to Flock surveillance data. This should raise alarms in Asheville because city records show that Asheville police are sharing data with that state agency, potentially exposing residents and visitors to ICE tracking. According to a spreadsheet (begrudgingly) provided by the City of Asheville in response to Sunshine Request last September, APD is sharing search and "hotlist" data with over 1,300 agencies, including Florida's FWC and others known to provide ICE with warrantless access to Flock. Flock data includes the license plate, brand, color, and even bumper stickers of every vehicle photographed. According to the Flock transparency portal, APD's relatively small camera network generated 357,227 vehicle records in the last 30 days alone. The City of Asheville must publicly release Flock audit logs to show with whom, and for what purpose, surveillance data collected in our community is being shared. Furthermore, in response to the clearly demonstrated threat posed to Asheville residents, the city should cancel its Flock contract immediately. To learn more about Flock and other surveillance technologies being deployed against our community, please join us on Saturday, April 11th at 3pm for a presentation by Southerners Against Surveillance Systems & Infrastructure.
