Been a while since I went to a Ticketmaster ticketed event. They won't let you save a copy of your ticket in any way except to Google Wallet? "Screenshots won't get you in." Fuck you, guys, GEEZ. I feel like we each slam into this kind of big tech wall 100 times a day, and it makes me want to tear my hair out.

"According to the Mozilla Foundation’s latest findings examining the privacy practices of period-tracking apps, Stardust was found to be sharing users’ sensitive health information with third-party analytics company RudderStack. This data included the user’s birthdate, birth control type, reproductive goals, and specific symptoms that the user was experiencing, and it tied that record to a unique identifier in place of the person’s name. (The FTC has long warned that this does not make the data anonymous or prevent it from being linked back to a person.) Acoustic gunshot detection is still a dangerous and often highly inaccurate technology that has resulted in real world harm, as in Chicago where it resulted in police shooting at children lighting fireworks. As Flock itself states, “No acoustic system is perfect, and we don't claim otherwise.” But police response to a situation where they believe guns are actively in use seems like a pretty high-stakes situation to be making, selling, and deploying technology known to be imperfect. Flock’s devices also listen for more than just gunshots. Social censure and shame are WAY better at affecting what people do than laws/regulations are. If we want people to stop using consumer surveillance tech, the strategy to use isn't regulation (though pass the laws too, I guess), it's hating the shit out of anyone who does use it. People will not use that stuff if doing so elicits reactions that make them ashamed to show their faces in public. "I saw all these comments about if you wear those glasses you're basically a predator or a creep, and I was like, 'oh, maybe it's not a good idea to have those,'" he told Engadget. But he says he understands why people have concerns. "I didn't really think that through all the way ... there are a lot of times where it's not appropriate to wear cameras on your face. And even though I would have no intention of do[ing] anything creepy with them, it didn't even occur to me [that] other people just assume that automatically." "Alameda County’s new $2.4 million contract extension with Flock Safety, approved by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, includes automated license plate readers, which capture data from the backs of passing vehicles; pan-tilt-zoom cameras that provide operators with a real-time view of public areas; and a fleet of drones. While ICE doesn’t have direct access to Flock cameras, local law enforcement agencies outside of California have knowingly and purposefully shared data from their own systems with that agency, according to 404Media. "GrapheneOS, a non-profit project that develops an operating system for Android phones with extra focus on privacy and security, has in recent days published a series of posts on the X platform about what they describe as a coordinated campaign by French police. According to the team, authorities have sent out internal messages to the country's police forces where all Google Pixel phones with GrapheneOS are labeled as suspicious. This has led to a wave of articles in French media, where claims that the system is used for criminal purposes are repeated without fact-checking or opportunity for GrapheneOS to respond.

The authorities are in practice demanding that GrapheneOS stop distributing functioning disk encryption, otherwise the project risks legal action. This is likened to the famous dispute between Apple and FBI in the United States, but with a twist: Google's hardware in Pixel phones is designed to resist such demands, and GrapheneOS builds further on that security. "They don't demand the same thing from Google for standard Pixel despite nearly identical encryption, because they are much less secure and can be exploited in advance". the team explains."

"The Trump administration has restricted the First Amendment right to record law enforcement by issuing an unprecedented nationwide flight restriction preventing private drone operators, including professional and citizen journalists, from flying drones within half a mile of any ICE or CBP vehicle.

We don’t believe it’s a coincidence that the TFR was put in place in January 2026, at the height of the Minneapolis anti-ICE protests, shortly after the killing of Renée Good and shortly before the shooting of Alex Pretti. After both of those tragedies, civilian recordings played a vital role in contradicting the government’s false account of the events.

By punishing civilians for recording federal law enforcement officers, the TFR helps to shield ICE and other immigration agents from scrutiny and accountability. It also discourages the exercise of a key First Amendment right."

"A software engineer’s earnest effort to steer his new DJI robot vacuum with a video game controller inadvertently granted him a sneak peak into thousands of people’s homes.

...he soon discovered that the same credentials that allowed him to see and control his own device also provided access to live camera feeds, microphone audio, maps, and status data from nearly 7,000 other vacuums across 24 countries.

Azdoufal could tap into their real-time camera feeds and activate their microphones. He also claims he could compile 2D floor plans of the homes the robots were operating in. A quick look at the robots’ IP addresses also revealed their approximate locations."
