TIL that author M. R. Richardson has a custom (Ubuntu) Linux distribution based on his books: https://mr-richardson.com/galactic-mandate-linux/
When are we going to get a custom FreeBSD from @mwl@io.mwl.io? Could be Laserblasted, $git commit murder, or -- even better -- Savaged by Systemd!
(/s if not obvious)

I know @alice@lgbtqia.space is in the Seattle area, if they'd be willing to boost this?

financial concerns for the *real people* that could be getting paid the money being sent instead to these massive corporations, including writers, artists, and library staff.

financial concerns about how these companies are operating at massive losses and will either have to massive raise prices or go bankrupt; trust concerns that "spicy autocorrect" will generate a response that sounds correct but is not, perhaps even dangerously so; legal concerns about the use of copyrighted data in the training set and whether/how that causes the generated result to violate copyright;

"What concerns, if any, do you have about AI?"
All of them. Privacy concerns about training on my data/interactions; Environmental concerns about the energy and water use, especially with the federal government bolstering fossil fuels (not to mention passing those costs to residents living next to data centers); ethical concerns regarding the training of these LLMs on non consensually, often *illegally* obtained data;

My manager is going to open a team discussion about #AI / #LLM use for software development. Much of the company uses #GitHubCopilot or #Claude and #ClaudeCode, while AFAIK I am the only one refusing to use these tools.
What are some recent studies I can reference about the harms of LLM use? I know there's stuff about deskilling, environmental harms, and code quality, but I won't have a chance to research specific studies until the end of my work day.

@0xabad1dea@infosec.exchange Not specifically. Did she use the same password for Canvas and these other services? Or Canvas and the email associated with those services?

@jonobie@social.coop @gutenberg_org@mastodon.social The only mystery books I've really read was the original Hardy Boys books. A few of those are in the public domain now, I think.
Since I don't have specific suggestions, may I instead offer https://standardebooks.org/subjects/mystery
@standardebooks@mastodon.social takes public domain books and makes high quality ebooks from them.

Mozilla claim $1.4 billion in reserves (and no debt). They’re funded by over half a billy anually from Google.
👏 Stop 👏 donating 👏 to 👏 Mozilla 👏
Mozilla is the same Big Tech they pretend to rebel against. Donate your money to a worthy open source independent project before it’s drowned by slop.
