Tonight I attended Dominikus Baur's @dominikus@vis.social inaugural lecture on "Generative Design and Creative AI" at Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences. An evocative introduction to his field, the role of rules and systems, and the importance of iteration and trimming. Looking forward to following what Dominikus and his students will do in this dynamic field in turbulent times.

ugh, what a dark coincidence. just listened to this nice radio feature last night on growing recognition of walking, with particular mention of Leipzig, which is trying to make the city more pedestrian friendly while facing perpetual parking violations that obstruct view and passage for people on foot – and now we learn there has been a vehicle ramming into a pedestrian zone, killing two people.

This new documentary on Hilma af Klint on ARTE is well worth your time (if you manage French or German).
It captures the Swedish artist's visionary position between art, science, and spirituality, featuring insights from experts and relatives alongside early archival footage, and many of her abstract paintings: luminous, diagrammatic, and ahead of her time.
I was very lucky to have seen her work in New York in 2019.

»Tot comença al centre« — everything starts at the center. these are posters for Barcelona's Centres Cívics spring enrollment. each poster shows a head with the face filled with fractal-like patterns. there are 52 such civic centers spread across the city, offering various kinds of courses. publicly funded, decentralized cultural infrastructure. i can't tell how well the offerings are, but the posters sure look great!

we're seeing an undignified debate in Germany right now, sparked by the chancellor's use of subtly racist tropes about cityscapes and safety. instead of stoking resentment, why not seek to understand and appreciate the richness of diverse urban life? i keep thinking of Suzanne Hall's street projects at the LSE, which celebrate urban diversity with simple yet evocative visuals, such as mapping a single street against the world
