Come draw and write poetry with us on May 28th!
Book 52: Kirkyards & Kindness by Kelley Armstrong (Rip Through Time 4.5). This was lighter than the others in this series—a dognapping is much less morbid than the murders that usually take place. It also flowed a lot better than book 4. The next book is coming out soon and I’m excited about it!
A blog post with a bit more info about our Seeing Symptoms art & poetry workshop!
Book 51 San Diego 2014: The Last Stand of the California Browncoats by Mira Grant (Newsflesh 0.50). An intense novella in this series. These stories read so differently since the Covid pandemic began. Pairing comicon with a zombie apocalypse makes for a riveting read.
#WIPWednesday • My brain fog is starting to lift so I actually got some #embroidery done this week! All in bright yellow. This might be the last colour for this section and then I’ll move on to other areas. #SciArt
Book 50: Angel Down by Daniel Kraus. I don’t usually like books set in war because they tend to valourize battle, but this one goes deep into both the horrors and the futility of war. I do love books about angels, especially ones that are more about the awe and terror that comes with experiencing a divine being and this book does that really well. 1/2
Seeing Symptoms: An Art and Poetry Workshop
Join artist Lia Pas & writer Lorraine Boissoneault for an hourlong workshop exploring the ways we can use art to make invisible illnesses more visible. The session will be virtual & free. It will be held on Zoom on Thursday May 28 at 12pmPST/1pmMST/2pmCST/3pmEST.
Book 49: Make Me Better by Sarah Gailey. What a fantastic novel! The pacing is absolutely exquisite and draws out the creepy elements in a very thrilling way. If you enjoy themes of cults and climate change this is one for you.
I realized when I started reading it I had reserved it on Libby without reading anything about it just because I’ve enjoyed Gailey’s other work. Going into it cold made it even creepier.
#WIPWednesday • I missed last week because I was so sick. But I’m improving in hospital & have done a fair bit of stitching. Working on the more sparse colours & had to send Husbandchef out for a couple other shades. #SciArt #embroidery
I got myself a speedweve #darning loom! I probably could have chosen an easier #mending project than a delicate cashmere blend scarf to try it out on but I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out. I still need to work on making neater edges but that’s just practice. #VisibleMending
For #BrainAwarenessWeek I’m sharing my brainiest #SciArt #embroidery pieces. Here’s she was tributaries (2016), a depiction of the electrical storm I feel in my brain when I have cognitive fatigue from #MECFS.
It’s #WorldHearingDay to raise awareness about hearing health and accessibility. Here’s my #SciArt #embroidery of the cochlea/inner ear—nave of vibration (2017)—which I did while researching my symptoms of hyperacusis.
