Last monday, I went out to try and take a few pictures with my new camera. This is one of them. A busy street and a woman and her child riding a bike. I cropped the image a bit since I wanted a square format for a change. I'm just a beginner with these things, so I'm figuring things out. I seems that - with getting older - I've fallen out of love with video games. Anyone else has that experience? I used to play a lot when I was younger, mostly RPGs. I remember getting lost in the amazing fantasy or dystopian worlds, for hours on end. The memory of that is still with me, and sometimes I try out a game that seems interesting or fun, but it generally can't hold my attention for long and I can't connect with it. So I leave it and do something else instead, mostly some creative project. #videogames #games #retrogames

@wyatt@soc.megatokyo.moe I still have floppies at home, 3.5-inch ones for a 90's pc that I miraculously still have, and 5.25-inch floppy disks for the commodore 64. I haven't used them in a long time. I've hearing stories of how bit rot is happening now, and I honestly fear for the commodore 64 ones. The contents for the 3.5 inch once were all copied to disk a long time ago, but with a commodore, you can't easily do that.

@teafutures@lgbtqia.space That sounds like a cool story! I love that little sketch you shared! I've never really done d&d though played boardgames and video games based on it. It's a fun world, and I think an amazing teaching tool in how to construct stories bout things you love. Cool that you wrote fanfiction too! Fanfiction about tv-series/ books/ .. ? I tried to write some things in the past, and microfiction & flash fiction works fine for me, ans I kind of like doing it. It's little stories (sometimes a brain dump too lol), but I can then adapt them in drawings and such. I once tried writing something longer (30 chapters planned) I actually reached writing 17 or so, but I realized there were so many things wrong with it that it's probably best not to continue it in that way. It was a kind of magic realism/ soft fantasy story with symbolisms in it but I wrote it non linear. Rereading it afterwards I came to the conclusion that it was difficult following the narrative. I'd like to adapt it somewhere in the future, but not in writing, probably in a comic as I'm more familiar with managing the pacing.

@DejahEntendu@dice.camp You're welcome 😊 I enjoyed the book. There is also a sequel to it, A Desolation Called Peace. I haven't read it. It wasn't out yet when I read the first book and then some time passed and I figured I had to do a reread of the first and just never to to it, sadly.

Have you listened to or read A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine? It's a scifi novel with a bit of a sapphic storyline, though it's definitely not a romance novel. It's the most recent scifi book I read (a few years ago already, but still)

@DejahEntendu@dice.camp Currently it's almost exclusively lesbian romance, but in different genres like Police Thriller (I'm listening to one now: 'Hell's Highway' by Gerri Hill), Political/ Corporate Thrillers, Historical fiction,... I have a few fantasy ones on my list too that I want to listen to. When I was younger, I loved reading fantasy books and classic literature. I haven't read many scifi books apart from a series taking place after the ending of the tv-series Star Trek: Voyager. I'm trying to get into fantasy again but it's not connecting at the moment. The audiobook I'm listening to for sleeping is a fantasy one ('Soldier's Son' by Robin Hobb, it's not a romance novel but a coming of age story of a young soldier). I chose that one for the night because I know Robin Hobb's writing style is calm and slow paced. Though the story is fine, I feel that the fantasy theme doesn't connect with me at the moment, not in the way it used to sadly. Are you listening to any particular audiobook at the moment?

Listening to audiobooks often gently calms me down. My mind is frequently racing with thoughts, unable to focus. Just putting on an audiobook while doing non-mental draining tasks (like household chores for instance) helps tremendously with that. It shifts my mind to the story, the thoughts are redircted at a fixed thing - the story - and I'm able to concentrate better on the task or to be more efficient because my thoughts aren't all over the place for once. #books #audiobooks #mentalhealth

I've also only recently came across 'aegosexual' when I was trying to find out more about how my mind/body processes sexuality, which has always been different for me. This is a definition I got online: “Aegosexuality is characterized by a disconnect between oneself and the target of sexual arousal. Aegosexual individuals may enjoy erotic media, experience arousal, or have sexual fantasies, but they generally feel little to no desire to participate in sexual activities themselves. For me it means that I can feel intimacy & sexuality for instance from sapphic romance in novels/fanfiction/tv, but it's difficult for me when I'm with someone, to be the receiver of sexual acts. It's a bit odd and I'm not fully sure that I'm the way I am because of how my life went and the difficulties I had in certain aspects, or if I've just always been like that.

@LaNaehForaday@universeodon.com Thank you for the suggestion 💛 A lot of is indeed kind of like rehearsing situations with people or conversations I could be having. Then there are also ideas for creative things like which art, edits, projects I can do or how i should do it. I think the suggestion to stop rehearsing is a really good one. I do it during the day too, but it's not an issue since it mostly doesn't hinder my activities. But it does create the engine, so to speak, to keep doing it even at times when it's a problem. So being mindful of that and trying to intervene in the day could maybe lessen that behavior in the evening/night too. As for the creativity part, it is a hard one. It's like getting into a creative flow state with ideas and being feeling unable to get out of it. There used to be times when I put a notebook on my beside table to write the ideas in.

@LaNaehForaday@universeodon.com You're absolutely right about that, a lot is sexualized in current society, for instance in music/dance. I'm not a fan of it either, and I never have been. It may have its place, but the omnipresence if it is disturbing. In my youth (early 2000's) music and music videos were already quite sexual at times, and I disliked it even back then. I rejected it partly because of that and I loved listening to older music where it's just the performer singing his/her song with a guitar for instance like in the 60s folk music. I've also always sought for the intimacy in the sex scenes I read/ watched in sapphic fiction or films more than anything else. But I do enjoy reading/watching them and experience the emotions. I think nowadays it's really getting to the extremes where you see on Tiktok kids copying those sexualized dance styles and basically dancing like they're already 18 years old and want to get a guy/girl home for the night. What kind of message does that imprint on a child's mind?

I wish you a lot of strength because that's a lot to carry. For me it was mostly discovering my sexuality as a teenager in an environment where I couldn't talk about it, I had shame and no connection to anything lgbtq in real life. I also had lots difficulty with social interaction back then. That made is so that I only came out at 25 and had my first relationship at mid thirties. All those years I consumed (fan)fiction or other sapphic media to sort of like compensate for romance /sexuality I was missing. I thought it was just that - compensation, but when I got into that first relationship I quickly noticed that it was hard for me to be on the receiving end of sexual attention. I could do it, but it felt off. I thought it was because I grew up the way I did, that I had been alone for too long. Maybe that's a part of it, I'm not sure. But I knew instantly when I read about aegosexual that that was like how I have connected with intimacy since my youth.

@lalah@sakurajima.moe I totally relate to the large pile of to-read books 📚 I haven't read Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit, I know it's considered a classic but for some reason it didn't catch my attention yet. I have only read a few mangas a long time ago (They were based on the Hack.Sign anime). I do read comics/ graphic novels sometimes though. Blue Is the Warmest Color by Julie Maroh is a good one if you're interested in that. It's the book the movie was based on. I had a look at the non fiction book you mentioned. It's the one by Lillian Faderman? It looks intriguing, I don't read a lot of non fiction, but I'll add that to my list. It is an interesting subject.

@fullywoolly@mastodon.social Difficult to say. Absolutely required, no, since the two books deal with a different murder case. But a lot of joy of these books comes from getting to know the main characters (Ross and Sullivan), seeing how they meet and how they interact and such, form a bond. That all happens in the first book, so you'll be missing a that and also information about the main character's pasts. So I'd say it's possible to listen to it/read it separately but I don't know if it will be enjoyable this way. I listen to the audiobooks on Audible, but maybe they're available on other platforms too.

I've heard good things about that book; it's on my list to listen to! Currently, I'm listening to Hell's Highway by Gerri Hill. It's the second book in her Ross and Sullivan series, about an FBI agent and a deputy who solve murder mysteries. It's a fun series.
