@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu Moreover, you should think of something about phones and tablets with healthy hardware but outdated software. So many companies especially in China stop the software updates/upgrades after like 2-3 years. And moreover, they also make it too hard for the #FOSS communities to come up with alternative operating system for these devices. Some companies lock the device to prevent installing custom OS. Some other violate #GPL and they don't release the #Linux source code for their devices. Some release the GPL code with a 1 year delay. Which means FOSS community is 1 year behind to bring custom OS to the device. All of these contribute to #ewaste and they harm the planet. And many people are forced to buy a new phone/tablet every 1-3 years to get a newer Android version.

@libreleah@mas.to May the Source be with you! Just noting something about the website. I strongly recommend a lil better design and colors. People get a "feeling" from you which influences their decision, even when they think it doesn't. I suggest on big enough screens, like PC, width of the body should be limited so the eye won't have to move much to read the text. Also a modest color pallet and very important, dark mode!

I very much am interested in looking OS designs beyond #Unix.

For instance I felt a real need for a different programming interface, OS and filesystem while I was doing research. I thought I wanted a #Lisp Machine comeback(hence title of the blog post below). But after research, I found the precise term to be "residential style developement". Below is me blog post:

I have also seen other software developers complaining about storage interface in Operating Systems and programming languages. For instance, here's a quote from Viktor who develops #Marginalia search engine complaining about this:

This is mostly a post to complain about something > that chafes. I wish there was a programming language (ideally several) that acknowledged that computers have hard drives, not just a processor, RAM and other_devices[].

Corporations mean you have to buy a new phone every 1-3 years because the parts won't be available. And also software support will end. #FOSS means an HP Elitebook 840 G4 from 2013 is me daily driver. Do you know phone manufacturers don't want a FOSS Operating System on their devices? Because they will have trouble selling new phones when the old ones still work good. That's why they lock the devices and also don't release the #Linux kernel source code, doing a #GPLViolation. I had 3 heat strokes today, part of #HeatWave in here, because of such these. It's not just about electronic devices. It is written all over the system. And unfortunately people also have learned to make as many trashes as possible. #ClimateChange #capitalism #opensource

I am in Iran and have been able to work with employers abroad and receive money. Because the Emperor, the US, thinks they are fighting terrorism with these sanctions. And therefore I cannot trade with a US based citizen via the traditional methods.

@david_chisnall@infosec.exchange Again very good enlightening words. Except that for this, I already knew it before. Maybe I have grown some wisdom? :) The thing is, those companies are founded to make profit. To make profit you can go the hard way and create a value for the society, or go the easy way and create problems in the minds of people then offer your solutions. What I'm trying to point out is that many needs people have today aren't "real" needs. Corpos creates solutions and convinced people they have that need and the solution is at their hands. Also, sometimes the companies themselves create the problems. This reminds me of a movie animation: "When we start manufacturing these fresh air bottles, the air quality will worsen. Then people will come to us to buy the bottles to have fresh air"

This caused many debates among early computer scientists and engineers. And today a wise human will learn from history. Unix is here. The others are not.

Of course. But we both didn't mean "work"? We meant "legal beneficial work". right? Then hiring a hitman to kill someone is also work. The question I had was not if theft is good. The question I had is moral of normalizing and legalization of sex work.
That's absolutely correct. And the question was about open sex. You can practice with your partner as much as you want. It's of great benefit for both of you beyond "just fun". As you probably know, the effects on the bodies is not something you can ignore. A body without sex is like a body which lacks some mineral or vitamin.
