@avatastic@avatastic.uk @catsalad@infosec.exchange direct link, you'll probably need translation? TL;DR 3 major RAM manufacturers have already sold their planned output for 2027, with no plans to increase output. That means a major supply squeeze. https://www.digitimes.com.tw/tech/dt/n/shwnws.asp?CnlID=1&id=0000763847_DVY7YHX65GMLYZ6UQEEMP

@IceWolf@masto.brightfur.net @noisytoot@berkeley.edu.pl @jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net pretty sure openh264 is ok to use - the license is paid by Cisco without their wanting to be paid back for it. It's not a cleanroom reimplemention or such, but is actually licensed. But if you're really concerned and need the codec, maybe have a lawyer check it over.

@gamingonlinux@mastodon.social they still do it, just at radio or infrared frequencies instead of merely audible. (Coax? it's a radio signal sent down the conductor. Fiber? Modulated infrared sent down the fiber. 5G? Literal radio. Dialup? It was never actually an audio signal, but it was a signal at a low enough speed to be heard and handled by circuitry designed for audio.)
