Both are just data points that can be set or not. It doesn't verify anything (other that the supplied value is, in fact, a timestamp).

The component deciding if your birthdate will be stored anywhere (and potentially verify it) is the installer, not systemd. Systemd doesn't ask and store your data, the installer does. With or without systemd.

JSON user database records may now optionally carry a birth date field to close the gap with LDAP/OpenID/FreeIPA/etc. homectl gained a new switch --birth-date= to set it.

Otherwise that's just hypocritical.

Other systems (like ldap) have age, location, phone number, real name etc. fields, so why specifically should systemd not include age? Is age somehow much more protected than real name and location?
If you have a problem with the original intention, revert and redo the changes then. But that's a huge waste of time and resources.

@alda I understand german and english. I watch *exclusively* german and english, because all the channels I've subscribed to produce videos either in either german or english. I do not need nor want to have german translated to english and vice versa.
It sounds fucking horrible, loses literally everything communication is supposed to transport and adds a minute or so to load times.

Strace any affected network tool (curl) and watch it hang at waiting for systemd-resolved via the DBus (https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/latest/org.freedesktop.resolve1.html) I have that issue constantly, every few days - tho only on my server. Restarting resolved doesn't really work, for some reason I need to change the config a bit, restart and test. Repeat if still broken
