@warandpeas have you considered using Liberapay? At least in parallel? I'm sure I'm not alone in preferring that 1) a higher cut goes to the creator and 2) we don't end up sending money to a US company every time we want to support a creator 😉

@Jo_Schu @pallenberg @marcuwekling Hängt extrem vom Thema ab. Ich glaube am schwersten fällt mir "Restaurant in der Nähe finden" bei Alternativen zu Google Maps. Routenplanung, auch mit Verkehrsinfo, geht schon verlässlich. Aber der Community-Aspekt und die vielen eingetragenen Geschäfte fehlen mir bei den Alternativen leider noch. Messaging ist für mich am liebsten Signal und da muss man leider doch oft in den sauren Apfel beißen um Kontakt mit Freunden oder Gruppen beizubehalten. eMail, SoMe, CloudSpeicher, ... funktionieren super mit alternativen Angeboten.

@SpencerWolfe@mastodon.social personally I think the X1 Carbon Gen 9 is pretty neat. Ultralight, 16:10 screen and in this generation a good balance of still being speedy and prices coming down. Don't know the "heavier" lines quite as well but there are some great ones too

@SpencerWolfe@mastodon.social a refurbished ThinkPad I would recommend. Depending on your size, weight and performance preferences I'd go X, T or P line. Minimum 10th gen Intel and personally I'd future proof by going for more than 16GB RAM (keep in mind many cannot be upgraded any longer, especially X series). Don't worry about SSD size and battery health too much as those are easy to upgrade.

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu how about the EU investing in public infrastructure as the "digital town square" - the fediverse exists and is OSS. Fund it, run public instances and pay moderators and include healthy usage of it in the school curriculum. Especially in the wake of discussions about prohibiting SoMe for teenagers. Create meaningful alternatives instead of focusing on what not to do 😉
