@reb Sadly, all OSes have some bits that are bad because they're made by us and humanity is imperfect: CP/M→Filesystems. MP/M→Stability. MS-DOS→Memory Management. Unix→overcomplexity. Windows→Where to start? OS/2→Same! macOS→Variability among other things. Linux→Fractive communities. BSDs→Hardware support (or lack thereof). RISCOS→Licensing and the fact it was basically a bodge to win a contract. Menuet32 and Kolibri→modern hardware support (lack of) & the fact documentation is largely Russian.

It's why Windows always had a mouse game (originally reversi, then solitaire, then a whole suite) to get new computer users used to the mouse! They basically dropped them in Windows 10 (and possibly 8?) as they assumed no-one needed them anymore, but with touchscreens now more common than mice, that assumption is looking stupid... @mhoye@mastodon.social

@mhoye@mastodon.social My Windows PC (not my work one) is Windows 8.1 (I mostly use Linux now) and, despite the easier start button, the startmenu is so hateful I just put things on the desktop or in a folder in the PATH variable to allow me to use the run dialogue box...
