If you temporarily change the perm and the exploit shows you are affected, it is still probably a good idea to run the mitigation command.
chmod o+r /bin/su
# then test the exploit
chmod o-r /bin/su
Because there could be another executable that could cause the same problem.
But it's your computer, so completely your decision.

The kernel changed that caused it is from 2017.
Or maybe the user you are using doesn't have read/execute perms on su, which might also prevent the vulnerability. I think usually su is configured for every user to have read perms though.

Any non-root user can gain root access with a tiny python script on most distributions.
I just tried the exploit on some machines and all were affected.
