Giggles at a comment on a Worm/Nanoha fanfic, in which said commenter proposed a TSAB crewman asking, "Wait, so she a former friend turned enemy turned magical rival and you haven't simply hit her with a giant friendship beam?" Which reminds me of the fanart for Nanoha that has Fate become sad at the realization that every enemy after her was befriended via progressively more impressive friendship beams (not including Quatro, don't threaten mamma bear's kid).
Looking for advice/recommendations. I recently got the urge to dig my old dslr and compact point&shoot cameras out from where they've been hiding and I'm interested in improving my skills and current software options. Does anyone have advice or resources for getting the basics down again after years away, street photography, doing portaits, or current Linux photo software (including being able to handle Nikon d40/d7000, or Canon Powers hot S110 raw files)?

Occasionally at the Institute For The Study Of Foxish Awesomeness we hear that some people are surprised to learn foxes can climb trees. As a reminder, foxes are nature's way of combining the best of canines with the best of felines. Foxes absolutely can climb trees. And if you think you saw one fall out of a tree or commit any other act of klutziness, no, you didn't. As you're just a human and we are foxes, we'd just like to remind you we meant to do that. So the Blu Ray player I've been using for viewing YouTube on our TV has decided it no longer wants to load anything more than the menu screen background (already tried completely disconnecting from power and restarting). Long term I plan to set up some variety of Linux media streaming box. But for various reasons that's unlikely to happen for a few months. I'm thinking of just grabbing the base model Roku stick in the meantime. Any Roku/cheap streaming device opinions? #askfedi
