@concretedog@mastodon.social I picked 3D printer & Tap, as while I don;t personally own a 3D printer I do have access to many, and I do personally own quite a few M5 taps.

@concretedog@mastodon.social I have to say, I have both, but they not a connected acquisition. I have had taps from M2 to M20 for years before a 3D printer came into my life. I have also never needed to use a tap, of any size, with my printer (yet).

@concretedog@mastodon.social very much not an engineer but I thought there was something about even sized bolts? Or does that only apply above something like m6? I've never seen an M7 or M9 bolt for instance, but I have a bunch of M3 bolts.

@concretedog@mastodon.social I have both, but my M5 tap is really cheap and nasty and my 3D printer is expensive and good! Plus the 3D printer can print M5 threaded holes that are good enough for a lot of purposes!

@concretedog@mastodon.social M5 tap as in screwhole drill bit? 🤔 Never seen those being used for 3D printed parts, it's either nut or those threaded melt inserts.

@concretedog@mastodon.social What pitch thread on the M5 tap? Course 0.8mm or fine 0.5mm? Who am I kidding, I've got both. Never needed a 3d printer though.

@concretedog@mastodon.social I have a 3d printer but don't even know what M5 tap is. I mean, it's metric something 5mm wide, I suppose, but I'm vague about what a tap is. A thread cutter? On the screw, or the hole?

@concretedog@mastodon.social So… if the people with 3d printers but no M5 tap sent their 3d printers to people with M5 taps and no 3d printers, the results of this poll would be neatly balanced. ;-)
