The CSS Working Group has published a First Public Working Draft of CSS Linked Parameters Module Level 1. This spec introduces a way to pass CSS values into linked resources, such as SVG images, so that they can be used as CSS custom environment variables in the destination resource. This allows easy reuse of "templated" SVG images, which can be adapted to a site’s theme color, etc. easily, without having to modify the source SVG. https://www.w3.org/news/2026/first-public-working-draft-css-linked-parameters-module-level-1/ #CSS #SVG #WebStandards

RE: https://floss.social/@igalia/116963760482026159 Nikolas Zimmermann is doing an exceptional work around #SVG for the #webkit project in general. And he is a wonderful voice on the W3C SVG WG to make progress on the SVG 2 spec. Go read his two blog posts. We need more of these in the browsers world.

Our colleague Nikolas Zimmermann (of KSVG fame) has two very interesting posts on the Layer-Based #SVG Engine (LBSE) he’s been implementing. The first post covers the steps he’s taken to reduce layer overhead; the second gets into the details of compositing. Worth your time if you’ve ever written SVG, or if you’re interested in how browsers render things that aren’t HTML and CSS! https://blogs.igalia.com/nzimmermann/posts/2026-07-14-lbse-conditional-layers/ https://blogs.igalia.com/nzimmermann/posts/2026-07-22-lbse-paint-order-segments/

More progress on the svg editor! Right now it is called "Rewire" btw. The svg document is finally integrated with the canvas editor, so you can use it along with the text editor to make changes. The actions you take in the canvas editor also sync with the text view, meaning you can undo and redo actions as though you had pasted or deleted text. #gnome #svg #gtk

Looking forward to #NFB26 and all of the convention shenanigans! I'll be teaching drawing, sculpture, and #SVG coding in the Art Room, will be popping in to give a few presentations on tactile drawing and art education and vibe coding, and will just generally be having fun with the whole Tactile Art Collective while we are out there!
