The Last Rose of Summer is a true story about corruption in #cancer research. I discovered a cheap, plant-derived drug that could replace some much more toxic (but more lucrative) therapies. #BigPharma got involved and suppressed the research. In 2006, I lived in #woonsocket #rhodeisland with my new wife in a shitty little apartment.
I used to leave this little radio unit on during the day to give the pets some noise while we were gone. Id leave it on this local AM station called ON Radio, & hook it into a tape deck & record it onto 90min tapes, to see what weird shit I could capture.
One day I heard this AWESOME song playing, & for years, I had NO IDEA what it was or who it was by.
This is one of the greatest early rock and roll songs.
It’s mysterious, has a super interesting production value, and just absolutely smokes.
That bright, percussive honky tonk piano sounds AMAZING, and was achieved by songwriter Bob Davie by placing thumbtacks on the piano hammers and speeding up the tape during production.
