Also, zero days (well, minus a lot of days because I've been slacking) since a random #Python package got a new #NIH dependency on another #Python package which is actually a "fastest" #RustLang package which cannot be built because the author thinks it a great idea to require a nightly Rust compiler. https://github.com/awolverp/cachebox/issues/62

Heads up for those brave folks who are trying to download and save information from US government websites - the NIH has announced changes to their websites. No idea whether this means data will be deleted or just rearranged but I thought I'd post about it here. https://www.nih.gov/web-modernization #USPol #NIH #Science #HealthCare #Research #MedMastodon #Resist

Article urging Congress to fund the ME/CFS Research Roadmap which was approved by NIH in 2024 but still not funded. @mecfs@fedigroups.social #MEcfs #PwME #Research #NIH #USPol

The flagship journal of the American Diabetes Association (#ADA) just published an editorial criticizing the #Trump admin for attempting to "Dismantle and Destroy Biomedical Research in the United States." https://diabetesjournals.org/care/article/49/6/901/164764/Misguided-Brushes-of-a-Pen-Continue-to-Dismantle At an ADA conference yesterday, some members tried to pass out copies of the editorial just before #NIH Director #JayBhattacharya was scheduled to speak. They were blocked by security and escorted out of the building by police. The ADA had called in the police. Bhattacharya cancelled his talk. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/05/well/ada-conference-diabetes-trump.html PS: What's going on at the ADA? The editorial had a disclaimer saying that it only represented the views of the authors, not the association. But the association had the courage to publish it. Then the association blocked its distribution, at its own conference, even calling in the police. Does it support free speech, even in support of science? Or not? And why can police stop peaceful scientists from handing out an editorial, even at an event sponsored by the group publishing the editorial? #Censorship #DefendResearch #Medicine #TrumpVResearch #USPol #USPolitics

#NIH Announces World’s Largest Integrated #Health Database It contains more than half a million people’s #genomes, paired with clinical records and wearable tech data. #AllOfUs, which started in 2018, recruits participants from diverse backgrounds and combines genetic info with real-world data from health records, wearable technology like Fitbits and other sources to help scientists investigate potential causes of and treatments for disease. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/30/science/nih-announces-worlds-largest-integrated-health-database.html https://archive.ph/pJb9F

"In the report titled 'Robert F. Kennedy Jr. vs. Public Health,' shown first to The Hill, Protect Our Care highlights the secretary’s actions on vaccines, medical research, food as well as his apparent aims of mobilizing his 'Make America Healthy Again' base as a key voting block ahead of the midterms." https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/5831996-protect-our-care-kennedy-report/ #PublicHealth #healthcare #HHS #NIH #MAHA #immunizations #biomedical #research #food #diet

Yikes: Trump destroying science in America “I Wrote Research Funding Announcements for NIH for 22 Years. This Year They’ve Published 14” For decades, the National Institutes of Health published between 650 and 850 Notices of Funding Opportunities each year. These announcements tell the research community which diseases need study, which populations are underserved, which scientific gaps need filling. They are how #NIH directs resources toward problems that won’t get solved by waiting for whatever grant applications happen to arrive. https://substack.com/home/post/p-191085985
