Washington built a $40 billion reinsurance facility to move ships through Hormuz. It has written zero business: not one dollar placed, not one vessel transited under it (Insurance Business, 17 May). The design explains the number. Cover applies only to vessels sailing under US naval escort, and two ships have ever done that, under the short-lived Project Freedom. A $40 billion facility waiting on a convoy. https://fault-line.io/extra-009/?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=extra&utm_content=extra-009 #Hormuz #Shipping #Insurance

"Figuring out who’s offering the best deal on heart surgeries or routine physicals isn’t the most pressing issue for everyday Americans. That hasn’t stopped lawmakers on Capitol Hill from trying to turn that kind of price transparency into their marquee bipartisan health care goal this year." https://www.politico.com/news/2026/07/26/health-care-price-transparency-insurers-hospitals-01011835 #healthcare #hospitals #insurance #CostsOfCare #transparency #UScongress #USpol

Now THERE was a triumph of #marketing indeed! Pres. Obama was completely outmaneuvered. Faithful to the politically self-defeating "centrism" of mainstream #Democratic politics, Pres. Obama thought he'd achieved an ideal compromise by rebadging Mitt Romney's Heritage-Foundation scheme for legally compelling more U.S. denizens to sign up for corporate health #insurance. He forgot that all Republican policies only work in Republican hands. He laid an egg in full sight of the nation, playing right into Republican hands: they instantly turned face and mercilessly shredded their own plan, successfully fastening Obama's own surname onto it as a slur. #Insurance. Ever think about insurance? I hardly ever do, but somewhere in our imagination there's Keyes from Double Indemnity, the razor-sharp insurance investigator played by Edward G. Robinson, talking about actuarial tables. There's a point to insurance. Run properly it's not merely a gatekeeping scam, an extortion racket supported by a fundamental human need for medicine, just as landlording is an extortion racket supported by the human right to housing. My wife is on the phone with #UnitedHealthcare because a surgery she had scheduled for Tuesday next week was denied by the insurance company. The woman who is speaking to her has informed her that there is a nursing support call that is free of charge if my wife needs to discuss the emotions of getting this claim denied and to plan future care. It is such bollocks. USians generally hate our healthcare plans and these companies. Imagine facing surgery and being told that they won't pay for it, but they will pay for a nurse to call you and console you about their decision. Absolutely horrific. Oh, and I pay nearly $30,000 per year for this level of health insurance for my family. #USHealthcare #PrivateInsurance #MedicalCare #medicine #surgery #healthcare #insurance

Car insurance. (I know, dull dull dull, but I am incensed) My small electric car has been insured with Aviva for the last two years. Insurance hike - 35% - no accidents, no tickets, no repairs, lowish mileage. 35% hike on premium. A little shopping around took it back down to 15% below last years insurance. For effectively the same policy. Shop around folks, they assume that auto renewal will enable them to milk us. #Insurance #Aviva #RipOff #ElectricVehicles

AMA it ceases to be 'we are experiencing unprecedented call volumes' when it goes on for months... Now it's just 'we are refusing to increase staffing levels to meet member demand' Sitting on hold #Alberta #insurance

RE: https://apobangpo.space/@bich/116859084570567268 Worth trying, perhaps, but what we really need is single-payer health care. Decouple employment from health insurance. #Health #HealthCare #Medicaid #Insurance #Business

"The insurance industry is embracing MAHA, while the doctors’ lobby is pushing against the movement’s leader, Health Secretary Robert F.
